If this works reliably over other ISP networks, full kudos to VF for being the only one in market with a legit iptv box. That’s no small achievement and makes 5G a minor upgrade by comparison.

Messing with peoples viewing is like building an unreliable payments system - do so at your absolute peril.

Not even tv1/2. I was expecting to be able to livestream all the Freeview channels at a minimum when connected via home wifi.

I'm guessing that without a link to a Vodafone TV service then you only get unlocked channels.

And you need to use the 'Manage TV' function via the MyVodafone app or the MyVodafone website to register devices for the Vodafone TV app.

Guessing again, you only get the 'Manage TV' option when you subscribe to the Vodafone TV device.

The question I would like to know the answer to is.... Will my existing Vodafone TV device need to be replaced to get the newer functions (ignoring the hardware changes obviously) or will I get them as part of the software upgrade?

I was expecting using the vodafone tv app to be able to livestream any of the freeview fta channels in my own home. I do have the vodafone intro tv stb and it does give me those channels. SO why not in the app also??? rediculous!

p.s has anyone here studdied the stb and app traffic in wireshark? pm thanks.

Of course there's a new Vodafone box. We just got our Vodafone TV the other week.. after waiting since April.

Is there a list of apps? Does it support DLNA playback?

A few questions?

Is it the same device SKY was gonna launch?

Is it running Android TV?

Does it have an onboard Tuner for UHF Freeview (You may say it doesnt need it , but this is streaming and those on crappy conections would benefit from it)

I've just in the last week got my Vodafone tv up and running..since vodafone owns the units still. Will be offered free replacement units if we want to update to the newer one?

I have asked some questions to Vodafone and got this:

It supports IP streaming of live TV channels (so it's like the Freeview/Dish TV streaming device), plus "a 72 hour circular buffer of all Live channels (for Reverse EPG functionality) and 500 hours (HD) cloud PVR storage." - I'm not quite clear on this cloud PVR storage yet but should have more information soon (expecting a review unit).

The mobile app can also remotely record and be used to change channels.

The box runs Linux on a Broadcom chipset - it's not Android TV.

The Vodafone TV is a standalone device available for a one-off cost of $179. Customers can then choose which streaming apps they would like to use – these subscriptions are paid directly to the service e.g. Netflix, etc.

I guess some of the other local apps will have to be developed for the box - Spark Sport, Lightbox, etc.

I'm wondering if we're going to see a plan update once the new device is available for purchase. The current Ultimate Home plan provides VFTV for free (with the Free to air chans) for $98 a month (rounded) but there is a Smart Connect plan for $83 which the TV unit doesn't come with. Could be a good money saver to buy the new device and go onto Smart Connect.

Looks pretty good might be a good replacement for sky for older people. I have family members that pay 30 per month just to keep free view and mysky recorder as simple to use for recording. This may be a good alternative yes they will need to up their internet though

Providing Vodafone can overcome the issue of "Recordings not available on all content. Recordings stored for a limited time." Inability to record some content is still staying my hand and the prospect of manually changing the status of the recording to "keep" it beyond 28 days would be a PITA.

I was rather liking the sound of it until we got to cloud storage rather than local. Not being able to record for offline viewing will be an absolute deal breaker for SWMBO.

This statement needs further explanation:

Is the new Vodafone TV device a replacement for the existing Vodafone TV device?
It sounds like a replacement.
I can't imagine that Vodafone will want to support both versions for too long.
What happens to those customers who have signed up for the existing Vodafone TV & Broadband packages?
Do that have to pay the early termination fee if they want swap to the newer device
Or will Vodafone give customers of the existing device the option to swap / upgrade to the newer device?
The original article mentions a soft launch for the new device...
1. Has anyone got the newer device yet?
2. What do you have to do to get the new device as part of the soft launch?
3. Is the new device actually better than the existing device?
4. When will the new device support the Sparks-Sport app for the Rugby World Cup?

It sounds like newer hardware from the same manufacturer Vodafone is currently using. Plus increased memory capacity for extra preloaded apps.

My main question are they using VODAFONES own restreaming for Freeview channels or going with Freeviews half baked app with its missmash of streams provided by the channels themselves.

Cloud dvr is interesting when Vodafone TV started didn't they offer increased cloud recording capacity for extra $

Does the definition of "soft launch" mean "light on details"?

I am already a Sky subscriber, and I have 2 decoders in my house. So I pay the monthly multiroom fee.

If you buy one of these new devices, can you can just watch Sky using your current sub, or do you have to pay for another sub?

Ideally, I would like 2 of the new devices in my house, and 1 of the MySky boxes for the bach (no internet, no phone, no cellular, no terrestrial freeview, just satellite). And even more ideally, watch all the Sky I can eat on any of them for just one sub.

Or is this wishful thinking just pie in the Sky?? :)

Existing. VF dedicated IP streams. Not Freeviews.
