I don't understand why people use the email services of ISPs. They always stuff up

Does anyone know what the cause behind these repeated outages is, and why it keeps repeating? The status page gives no information as to what or where the fault is.

Tezzla: It was Telecom, Xnet was probably the worst affected though it seems...

What is the source of this information? Would be interested to know the root cause of the outage.

Actually, now I'm not so sure...

There was an outage on MDR-IP05 and 6 this avo between 12:30 and 13:00 or so which would have affected most dsl traffic (if only briefly), and I assumed thats what people were seeing, but Xnet might have further unrelated issues.

I am so fed up with WxC/Xnet at the moment I am going to switch to Orcon. Yes, I know I have been saying this for a long time but once I get back from being away next week I'm going to switch. First the horrible customer service then the dreadful speeds and now the outages every hour. I am also embarrassed for recommending Xnet to my friends and family. I am truly disgusted WxC. I am deciding to walk with my feet.

Sorry for this rant guys, this will be the last one, I promise. Tongue out

Have to say I'm getting pretty annoyed with them too.  I use Windows Mail to download emails from 3 different sourcecs, but haven't been able to reliably get to Xnet for over a week now.  The POP server times out more often than not.  Very poor.

I know how you feel I too have recommended WxC to others and have three Friendxchanges...like you if these issues especially email persist into next week I'll change too.

One would think they would email or snail mail [since I can't get email !] us loyal customers to reassure us and prehaps offer some credit for such a terrible month

Lets see how they get on tomorrow

I'm afriad my Free email accounts are now more reliable that Xnets attempt at running an ISP email. I had emails arrive lastnight that were more than 3 days old. The outages are now rather annoying and the speed issue has become costly as now I need to lease time on a fibre connection in town to upload to my US based VPS servers after midnight.

Sorry Xnet but you have lost a customer here. TCL here I come.

The good news:

1. Internet Service is back
2. I can get to webmail but...

The bad news:

Webmail is so slow it is unusable i.e. I cannot compose or change folders etc
Clearly the mail server[s] are still having issues Frown

http://www.xnet.co.nz/cgi-bin/status.cgi?id=423 states email issues since 3pm Monday gone unresolved and that tomorrow between 2am and 6am urgent maintenance will occur - that is over 3 days without reliable or no email !

On Monday I change ISP if these issues esp webmail are not resolved permanently

ps: Why on earth did they change to Roundcube the old-webmail was so much better and feature rich

Yep. I am another one.

Not happy with the email and webmail performance of Xnet.

Am looking at other ISP/phone options.

I noticed a few hiccups yesterday with the internet connection, the VOIP dropped out briefly - ( 1 or 2 minutes0 and web access was held up twice, but I have not really noticed any mail problems. It continues in both directions pretty mucgh as normal.
I do notice that things seem snappier than usual today for general browsing, but then I have not really had too many issues with download speeds in the evenings in the past, so maybe I am lucky?

We are on Xnet here for our business DSL..
Last few outages were the nail in the coffin.. We are switching all phone&DSL accounts to Telstra.

May still use Xnet for my own home DSL next year.. will see how the go for the rest of the month..
