whinging device addicts:I am a consumer and I want companies to bow to my whims cuz I have to keep up with everyone else. I want the latest features and I want them YESTERDAY. I want. I want. I want....
Screeb:
Throw us a bloody bone already. TelstraClear seriously needs to get its act together, on both TV and broadband.
DeBoyWonder:
Throw you a bone? Get their act together with broadband?
So the fact that you have the best bone available in the market right now isn't sufficient.
Let me guess, you want a bigger, faster & cheaper bone?
Come off it dude, if it wasn't for TelstraClear, Telecom wouldn't be implementing VDSL2 so soon, Orcon wouldn't but going balls out in Wellington and you would have to tolerate the joys of ADSL running off 75 year old copper wire.
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
Screeb:
Hahah, what? Sorry, but you appear to be living in 2006. TelstraClear cable is no longer the "best bone available". 10Mbit with 40GB data for $110. That is nothing compared to the ADSL2+ plans from other companies.
Something tells me TelstraClear's cable network with years-old plans worse than ADSL2+, in Wellington and Christchurch only, have little to do with Telecom bringing VDSL2 to a few Auckland suburbs in Q2 and the rest of the country later.
I've been grateful for TelstraClear cable in this decade, but in recent years xDSL has jumped ahead, and cable has stagnated. It's as simple as that.
DeBoyWonder:
Can you name an ADSL2+ plan in the cable area that I could sign up to tomorrow without paying more than TelstraClear and get garaunteed speed above 10Mbit without having to live next door to the exchange?
Telecom have consistantly stated that part of the reason they invested in the VDSL2 network was due to competitor pressure.
A little fact; over the last year in Wellington where TelstraClear's cable broadband is available, the company saw a 6% increase in broadband subscribers and now hold slightly more than 55% market penetration in the cable area.
I admit the speed on the plans has stayed put over the last year or two years, I will even admit that the price increase was a bitter pill to swallow but I will consistantly defend the fact that cable broadband is going from strength to strength
I honestly can't wait to see what market share TelstraClear will have at the end of this financial year.
Despite your pro-DSL campaign, numbers don't lie.
Screeb: ..
Why should it be guaranteed? Cable speeds aren't guaranteed... Anyway, lets see, there's Telecom Pro, which is 40GB for $80. Telecom! I live about 1km (line distance) away from my exchange, so I will no doubt see >10Mbit. And it's $30 cheaper...

This sort of article makes me wonder if we will even see a rollout this year. If Sky can blame a profit loss on HD then whats the chance that tougher economic times dont mean TC will use that as an excuse not to bother.
Like most on triple service I'm tired of no information, no HD progress, plans getting less attractive, pings increasing from 150 to 450-600 and overall being ignored bar getting a bill and having to pay it.

The launch of the new HD platform was a "spectacular success" with 51,485 new MySky HD subscribers as of December 31, said chief executive John Fellet.
