hey sbiddle this may help, I got a pm from joshp i think he works at xnet..

"The registration details are entered incorrectly, it appears that you had the Authid coming through instead of the username (phone number) and your final registration at 20:22 had register=9950xxxx this should be just 9950xxxx (remove the register=)"

This was what I talked about earlier when I mentioned that I had to change some of the fields in outgoing calls and replace AuthID with ExternalLineNumber.

I'll hopefully get a chance to have a look at this later on..

Another tip in case it is applicable:
If you have any other VFX trunks (or any others) on another Trixbox / Asterisk box; make sure it is shutdown.

I've been playing (unsuccessfully) with an ATCOM IPxx and found multiple VFX trunks going to different systems (on same broadband connection) did not play nice together :(

I've just spent an hour or so playing with this and can see where the problem is but can't see how to fix it.

Outbound calling works fine however inbound won't work since 3CX keeps getting back a 404 error when it tries to register. Since VFX (by default) isn't a true SIP trunk 3CX needs to reguister to accept inbound calls.

In the register string 3CX sends the same data for the AUTHID and SIP ID in the register request. These need to be different - the SIP ID for the From: and To: needs to be your phone number and the Digest Username needs to be your VFX username.

A quick search on the 3CX forums brings up a post from 2007 saying that 3CX doesn't support different settings for both but it will be done in the future.

I've tried numerous settings in the SIP settings but can't get any luck. If I send a register request from Asterisk then I get inbound calls working fine.

Anyway it's time for bed - I'll follow up on this and see what I can find..

Actually seeing the update from Sbiddle on this, this is an issue I'm afraid as VFX works off seperate auth / user details (security security security and did I mention Security), outbound calling is okay as you can manuipulate the invites to include both user and auth details, the problem becomes the registartion where you can't and it only supports one common user / auth detail.

This isn't a common issue as because of the extra layer of security most devices support seperate details, possibly I can look at a custom solution but I did notice though that you run Trix box as well and have some questions around multiple DDI's with another provider (this should actually be doing proper SIP trunking btw which I believe is not correct so thats probably why you have some issue) so why wouldn't you use Trixbox instead of 3cX ?

So it's now fair to say this was less than correct as far as VFX is concerned? I pursued 3cx on the basis of this statement.

In my case I wanted to use 3CX because I *like* Windows and don't need/want another OS/machine/VM just to do telephony.

But hey, if it can't be done then I'll look for another solution. Any ideas?

The issue lies with 3CX - they don't support unique SIP ID's and AUTH ID's in the register string. VFX uses this for enhanced security and certainly aren't the only provider doing this.

WxC weren't necessarily incorrect - they also offer a DVX direct connect service that offers true SIP trunking. I'm not sure if you understand what this means and how it differs from a SIP peer but the main difference is that no registration request is required, all SIP traffic is routed automatically to your IP address. Using this configuration 3CX would probably work fine.

I'm going to follow this up with 3CX anyway and see what they have to say. They really should have an option to define the data that's sent within the SIP register string.

Thanks. I was only commenting on the assertion by joshp that VFX/DVX works. It doesn't in the case of VFX, at this time anyway.

I currently use DVX trunks on another system (not 3CX, though it would seem this would work), this is just for home use. Not worth paying for a DVX trunk at home though.

I did notice the lack of a configurable "register" parameter in the 3CX setup.

I will await some feedback from SBiddle on a couple of tests, I may be able to sort something out as a custom for you but will wait to see what we get back
