Murdock82 why is this a vodafone issue you buy a cheap import handset what do you expect the red carpet rolled rolled out and have you tried your SIM in another handset and sending a PXT to your own MSISDN.

Looks like your all ready to blame the carrier before thinking the issue might be my handset

damonz and what a stupid idea to keep Emaiing vodafone what would this achevie

lol...johnr, first of all these phones are not cheap...internationally they are very good phones.

Second i did try this pxt from another, so did lare83 below that's why i didn't post again when i did, and it works. And supposedly this problem only started on these handsets a few months ago.

It's vodafones problem cause I'm still their customer even though i didn't conform to buying one of their dull standard phones, i use alot of their services, and since it is such a common problem you would think they could spare more than a couple of minutes over the phone to see what the possible problem might be.

Murdock82 your answer is very weak sorry. Get a import CDMA handset and try connecting this to the TCNZ network and see what suppot you get then? At least there was a Email reply from vodafone NZ with a link to some help and someone else figured it out (good on them) and it took them under a day

Here is another example if you purchased a TV overseas and if this started have issues would you ring TVNZ and ask them to fix the issue. You know what the issue is. Its the handset your SIM worked fine in another handset. damonz Did you think about ringing or sending a Email to samsung!!!

lare83: I had no problem with it till mid July... then that;s when I started getting 'server not responding' messages...

In this case I have to agree with Murdock82 and lare83: it was working before and it stopped working.

It's not the case of being an import - something was changed on the Vodafone side of the equation, and this has affected performance and customer satisfaction.

Guys, have you tried n8's suggestion and selected the D500c model from the Vodafone site for the settings?

Also, if this "you say, I say" don't stop, then I will simply lock the thread.

freitasm if this was a vodafone network issue all of them would stop at the same time my friend has one that was purchased from a importer in Queeen Street Auckland city and this is still going fine today.

Johnr, firstly i'm not stupid or anything and not trying to be a wise guy, but just getting a bit frustrated.

I have tried Samsung and they are just as useless at this point. I've pointed my queries toward vodafone, becuase from what I've gathered this issues has popped up in the last few months. The phones certianly haven't changed. Vodafone has possibly changed the way they are handling the data transfer that the server is no longer responding to this particular handset type. A technical guy at vodafone would possibly be able to see what has been changed? I could stand corrected as I don't claim to be an expert at this.

Finally on the lucky guy that just posted and it seemed to work for him...must be a miracle...I tried the links for both the D500 and D500C configurations over a week ago and neither have worked.

phones go through operator acceptance, an operator gets a phone and runs it through its paces and certifies it for use with their network, vodafone has unique infrastructure and settings just as telecom nz do and other operators elsewhere. the motorola infrastructure for ptt/poc is a perfect example and nokia ptt/poc handsets are useless in nz.
just because you were enticed by an exotic handset at a parallel importer it doesn't mean it will automatically work.
vodafone invests time and money in its network and handset selection, the samsung d500 d600 and the like are available but no through official channels,
gsm is a global standard for mobiles and covers some things but unique settings like gateways and apn's make services work services such as pxt

so vodafone have no obligaton to offer support for a handset that doesn't necessarily have operator acceptance, just because handsets feature on the wireless setup portal it doesn't mean they have OA and doesn't mean buying a handset from an importer guarantees success,

Murdock82 I never called you stupid if it felt that way i'm sorry but have you tried a firmware upgrade on the handset and then tried the service. There is one person in this thread that advised there D500 is working fine... rules network out again..

Check the firmware with the other GZ member that the service is working and make sure you are using that firmware on your handset

no worries johnr no apology needed, i was a bit rude i think. Haven't seen anyway to upgrade firmware for the phone. Don't think there is an upgrade? If so any ideas of how i can get this?

I have done a quick search on google and there are quite a few versions of firmware for the D500 and other D500 models, Best to contact place of purchase or Samsung direct you might even like to try mobilefonerepair.com

Hi all, after my earlier post I started getting old faithful again, ie "server not responding" bugger !!! but tonght I was surfing the net while watching Auckland smash Otago and found some codes that may help.......

*#1234# will tell you your firmware, mine is D500XAED3

This thing seems to be hit and miss as I managed to send a pxt to a mate on telecom, tried again 5 minutes later and failed - fingers crossed someone will find a fix soon. cheers n8
