Indeed, they should admit that there's an outage even if they don't know the cause, otherwise you don't know whether it's a big problem or just something at your end.

Compare the "quality" and "usefulness" of any NZ ISP's network status page to those of popular overseas ISP's and it's just sad...

Examples:
http://www.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=2
http://advisories.internode.on.net/list/past/all/

ralphski:
freitasm: It frustates me as a TCL customer how they give so little attention to things tha could make their customers' lives easier, such as updating a status page accordingly.

It looks like TCL operates in a "if we don't disclose then it is all working 100%" mode.

Not quite accurate, before an outage can be posted they have to isolate what it is, where it is & who it's impacting

Imagine the nework status page saying "we have a problem but we don't know what it is, where it is or who it's affecting yet please check again later".

I'm sure I'm not along in thinking that actually thinking a comment like that (reworded slightly) would be the smartest thing you could actually do.

Right now the status updates are terrible - even when there are majoer faults they typically aren't updated and neither are the IVR queue messages. Both of these should be a priority during any outage.

Hi Guys,

Is anyone still having inssues with this? Our entire server network is hosted by Horizon Pacific and this has been down for over a week now.

This only seems to affect the Horizon Network over a Telstra Connection. But now I have heard a few Xtra Connections can't connect to any site on these servers either. All other sites are fine, all other ISPs are fine (when viewing our sites).

Example sites:
www.ecomcorp.co.nz
www.promail.co.nz
www.glasscorp.co.nz

If anyone on a Tesltra or Xtra connection can view those sites, please let me know.

I found this thread from a search for second hop trace route timeout. As one poster has already posted, we get the same timeout on the second hop.

glasscorp.co.nz resolves to 114.134.164.241
promail.co.nz resolves to 114.134.164.3
ecomcorp.co.nz resolves to 114.134.164.4

Are there correct? If so then the Clear DNS is working ok, but I can't connect to these sites. A tracert shows TCL traffic goes from WLG -> SYD -> AKL.

Hi, on Xtra, all those URLs resolve exactly as Mauricios got above, but none load.

Cheers
Cyril

Thanks guys. Those IP's are correct. And I can ping them fine too.

Horizon said something about Telstra traffic going to Aus first and then back again.

You both are getting the same as me (Xtra) and our customers (Telstra). Sites load fine on Xnet and Voda.

Weird.

Mauricio,

Do you get the same sort of route to other AKL based servers? One example is www.webdrive.co.nz.

Cyril, do you get the same SYD route to AKL too?

Another strange thing is that I can FTP and SSH to a server on this same network no problem. It only seems to affect web traffic. I can also get into our cPanel on another port in a browser.

Thanks very much guys. Everything ended up getting sorted on the 29th after calling Horizon relentlessly. Still no explaination as to what happened here, but at least they're up again.

Cheers again.
