Thanks ;-)

As a noob I don't know the netiquite of the site yet. I thought GB was following it up. However I will make an official report to telstraClear.

I'm experiencing problems from about 11.30pm onward.

Apologies if that last part is considered 'off topic'.

Well good news.

On Friday I found this topic after while performing an error message search, which was received whenever trying to access Reddit between around midnight and 8am.

For the sake of reference, a month ago I update my DNS settings to fix a Zero Punctuation access issue (thanks to another thread), to the Clearnet ones listed here:
https://telstraclear.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1306

I took the advice from the TelstraClear technician who posted here, and contacted the help desk about the problem, and sent some ping/tracert info to them upon request (tip: they prefer info from a direct connection to modem with no router inbetween)

I am now able to access www.reddit.com between the hours of midnight and 8am without any problem, and without any change to the computer configuration.
So hopefully this means that someone on their end checked things out and tidied things up.

Do others who faced the problem find now that it is resolved for them too?

Works for me this morning too. It'd be nice if there were an easy channel to notify them of problems like this. I've had these exact problems in the past, but with a different site, but I couldn't get the message through to the helpdesk. I gave up and and a few weeks later the problem came right.

Hi everyone,

Our technical experts have got to the bottom of this and resolved the issue. If anyone has further problems, please let me know and I'll pass the info on. As mentioned in an earlier post, to ensure that your case is logged we recommend:

-          The faults team need traceroutes and also ping tests to the domain when you’re having problems.

-          Also dates and times when the website you were trying to reach was unavailable.

-          Ask the agent for a Case number. TelstraClear references are T(7) digits.

Normally with these types of issues you will be given an email addresses to send the information to. The email should have the reference number T(7) in the subject field and the results from the traceroutes etc in the email body.

Thanks for persevering while we worked it through.

Gary

Well bugger. Reddit was available last night, but tonight we're back to the same old Gateway Timeout situation.

From the before and after, it looks like the destination IP address has changed for them.

Before (4am yesterday morning)

Tracing route to a659.b.akamai.net [203.167.141.154]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 * * * Request timed out.
  2 61 ms 16 ms 31 ms 218.101.61.101
  3 23 ms 23 ms 31 ms 203.97.86.195
  4 24 ms 24 ms 23 ms 203.167.141.154

Trace complete.

After (this early morning)

Tracing route to a659.b.akamai.net [203.167.141.161]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 * * * Request timed out.
  2 11 ms 11 ms  9 ms 218.101.61.101
  3 25 ms 23 ms 24 ms 203.97.86.195
  4 23 ms 24 ms 23 ms 203.167.141.161

Trace complete.

I'll have to get in touch with them later on today about this.

It didn't work for me at about 6:50 but seems to be working now at 7. Reddit was up because it still worked via SSL.

Darn. Thanks for logging this. We're having another look at it now.
