Bee: We dont use 40GB per month - we use maybe 15 max... we do do toll calls. So what would be really good would be something like 20GB + phone + unlimited 1 hour toll calls for less than $80 a month...
but it seems like finding any plans with less than 40GB will be near on impossible soon... Which is how the ISPs make money as Ive stated before - sell 40GB packages to 50 people who only use 20 - 30GB each. The rest is therefore profit...
this plan would be aimed at someone like myself, who has a large steam games list and watches youtube and games online for a living. 40gb is not enough, i use roughly 200gb a month. im on telecom 10gb total home and its fantastic, just thought id let others know about this deal. telstra is also looking at buying a steam cache, which allows steam users to download steam games fast, and without bandwidth usage.
for someone like yourself, 20gb would be more than enough so i wouldnt recommend this plan :)
lastly, i say the profit they make from people not using their entire allowance, is soaked up by people like myself who go over their allowance 20 times.

I totally agree that someone who wants to call the whole of NZ, one of those packages does represent value.

Dude... seriously... that really is the whole point... If you're just sitting on a current 'standard pricing plan' from one of these other providers then you need to get busy and do some thinking :)
The other point I'd like to make is that the comparison, per this post was for:
* 40GB * 1 voice service * Total service cost for 12 months
If you can see a better deal for those terms from any of those providers then please point them out as I'm sure people will be very keen to know, but it really did take me long enough just to compare these numbers.
I'll look at adding Vodafone tomorrow unless someone wants to download the xls, do it and put the updated charts on line.

My point was more that if one of the other providers has a better acquisition offer then you haven't included it in your analysis. If you were thinking about moving providers then of course telstra are going to look the best because you showed their promotional pricing in comparison to everyone elese' standard pricing.
Telstra haven't gone on TV with this promo, the only reason it has appeared here is because somebody found the URL and posted it - we don't even know if there are some eligability rules that apply to certain people. Any other provider could easily have a similar or better promo on but it just hasn't made it here yet.
if you are in the Orcon+ network you can get 40GB for $71 - and that is a permanent price that doesn't expire after 12 months unlike the telstra one where your price is jacked up by $30 once the 12 months 'free 40GB' has eneded. (and this isn't genius, this is normal PSTN)
Other providers have their offers only available for door to door sign ups or with some sort of code you quote to a telephone rep or something, so no way to proove it but they could also just as easily be much better too.

Graphs are kinda fun to make and quick. I didn't feel inclined this morning to hunt around for the numbers but wondered what the savings charts would look like.
The charts are based on a dynamic spreadsheet. So, as soon as I put the numbers in, I'll have new graphs... as I've just worked a long day and still have some prep work for tomorrow to do, I doubt that I'll update them tonight either.
As for misleading... pffft... the implication of the pictures is that there's money to be saved depending on which provider you're with. You guys have jumped in with a bunch of comments about options to consider from free calling areas to other provider specials. The thread is not miss-leading at all and any issues with my graphs have been more than high lighted by you and others, so I'd say as presentations go, it's fairly balanced and should give people a good heads up that they should be checking their options if they're with one of the highlighted providers.
