I appreciate that TCL and Sky have the same policy.  I'm just saying that for someone in my position who does not already pay for the HD ticket - paying $20/month for 1 channel is not a great deal especially considering most of the content will be on normal TV eventually.

Thanks Stargazer - I can certainly understand your position. Apologies though as I didn't explain it very well! We offer SKY channels to our cable customers as a service, so the SKY HD ticket requirement is not something we can change. Hope that makes it clearer.

Maybe instead of just accepting that this is the case, TCL could use their considerable weight as a re-seller (provider) to suggest that the model is flawed and that there would be a greater potential uptake if the channel was offered in HD without the need for the HD ticket.

I presume TCL has some autonomy in the way it structures the pricing - perhaps you could offer this to try to win customers over!

I think that might have some chance of working if TCL had any other options for sourcing the content - however since its Sky or Sky or nothing, I'm guessing Sky wouldn't be too overly concerned...

I don't think anyone can really defend the $10 "HD ticket" idea. It's a ridiculous charge which I will not pay on principle. unfortunately there are those that just pay it and until there is competition for Sky (real competition) I guess they can do what they want. I have no doubt if freeviewHD didn't exist we wouldn't be getting HD 1,2+3 even.

Hi all,

You can now order SoHo from your personal 'Order or change products' section (under Customer Zone/My Profile - the orange button on the right of the page). You can also add the HD ticket if you want SoHo HD programmes in HD instead of SD.

The channel is $9.99 a month and the HD ticket that SKY requires is $10.00 a month (both prices are the same as SKY charges).

Details of SoHo are here: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/inhome/tv/channel-line-up.cfm

Cheers, Gary
