Telstra has announced it will be the third mobile carrier to offer the iPhone when the handset launches in Australia on July 11.
In doing so it has become the first carrier to unveil pricing details for the device. Telstra's two-year iPhone plans start at $30 a month with an upfront cost of $279 for the 8GB model and $399 for the 16GB model.
Those who opt for an $80 a month plan will receive an 8GB iPhone at no cost, while those on the $100 a month plan could get either the 16GB or 8GB models at no cost.
[read the link for more details...]The lack of information seems to be working its own magic with hype building amoungst people on this site anyway. 20 pages and still going ...
I've had probably 30 customers ask me about the iPhone and everytime I have said "not sure, apart from its being released on the 11th" they have all gone "cool, I'll ask after the 11th then" ... so I think the lack of information is torture for those really interested but I bet they keep checking so, in a way, isn't that good for the company? Dribble out bits of info every day or so to keep the buzz going until the 11th perhaps and realise the whole plan on the 10th. Thats what I'd do.
<on an aside, the tone of this forum went a bit downhill ... where is a love? Its only gadgets afterall, nothing important IMHO>

redjet: Indeed! I think it's a good tactic with VF being the sole supplier in NZ.
. They're keeping VERY tight-lipped with their retail chains and they'll only receive information near the time the pubilc does. Though they're working hard to keep to the 11th July launch date I'm not so sure they'll achieve this. Let's hope the number of units they have on standby is sufficient.

JaBZ: What does it cost to terminate a contract early? I imagine it'd be offered on 24 months?
jpollock: Actually, the termination fee depends on the contract.

They can get as high as $1000.
drdanick:It's only the AUS pricing plans. But still, I'm sure the NZ prices won't be too far off.Check this international price comparison... there's a great deal of variance between countries so there's nothing to suggest that we'll have something similar to the A$30 offered by Telstra (with no detail of the plans available).
redjet: [I think that's why Telstra in Oz have annouced details about their plans so they can get a jump on the competition.
