Looking forward to the 5.1 appearing on my Gen1 box - am I right in interpreting that this will only come in an update after the RWC, or is the update for the Gen1 box already done (I'm not at home to check)

Also, has Vodafone done any work with Logitech to get these devices added to the Harmony universal remote database?  I've manually done the IR code learning thing and it works OK, but it'd be nice to have an officially supported device in Harmony.

Thx.

PS @olof - nice to see your name pop up!

Interesting, I was expecting just visual FF and rewind in the update, I thought 5.1 was already there in V1?

I haven't checked lately, but it certainly wasn't earlier this year - the dragon flying over the castle in GOT was hugely disappointing - nothing but stereo on the VTV G1 at that point in time

I have this setting in mine, I'd always assumed it's 5.1, maybe it's only ProLogic or something:

Hope the image worked, I'm new to the forum!

5.1 is active now on Gen2. On Gen1 it will be after RWC with the software update.

ianajmes: Recording seems to be a piece of cake. Not sure what the limit is on channels is but I recorded 3 at once at the touch of one button. The guide flips back 3 days and I would say that to the claim of 90% of programmes being available looks pretty good.

The limit is which channels are you allowed to 'record' from. I don't imagine there will be a limit on simultaneous channels, because all you are doing it flagging the programme on someone's cloud so you can go back and stream it later. Nothing really gets recorded by that box. Other question is how long do you have to watch something after you've flagged it.
Is Prime available to 'record' or watch three day's back?
Thanks for the updates! :-)

Can confirm Prime is available for both recording and for 3 day playback. Not sure how long after recording you have to watch something..will investigate.

Is Prime in HD?

I have purchased the Retail Gen2 Box. It does appear to be in HD. In the Guide you can select Prime Programs such as Madam Secretary to Record and it says it will record the series and it will soon be available to view, however once it is recorded it does not allow you to view it. There is a Subscribe button, but I didn't realise you have to subscribe to Prime to view recordings because Prime is a Freeview channel. Is this a bug?

We’ve just reproduced the issue with the programme you mentioned so the team will look into this.

Prime is recordable as part of Freeview and the problem is with this individual programme.

On Vodafone Retail Vodafone Gen2 TV Box without Sky when TV One News is recorded it says it will expire in 3 days. I was told by a support person before I bought the box that recordings last for 90 days but this does not appear to be the case and it appears that in some cases the recoding will disappear in 3 days. Is this a bug or is it just an incorrect comment?

Only some programs on the Vodafone TV Retail Box can be restarted from the start.

When begining to view a program after it has already started some programs give you the option of restarting viewing from the start of the program on the Vodafone Retail TV Box without a Sky subscription. Why is this not available on all programs?

Before I bought Vodafone TV Gen2 Retail Box I saw advertising saying 90% of programs can be recorded.

This does not appear to be the case as most programs on TV3 and Bravo do not appear to be able to be recorded. At least 50% of the programs I used to record on Sky Freeview channels do not appear to be able to be recorded on these channels. When is this going to change?

@samson There is also a problem with the Guide in the VTV Gen2 Device in that programs that are setup to Record do not appear with a Red R and a Red R appears on  the program currently you are on in the Guide even if it is not set up to record.

More issues to report:

  • With the main menu open, there's a glitch in the closing animation when exiting to Live TV.
  • Pressing the Back button on the remote takes you back to the previous channel, but if you open a menu (i.e. press OK for program info) it forgets the last channel and just takes you to the main menu.
  • I personally think the back button should just display a message saying no previous channel instead of opening the menu.
  • Using the channel up/down to move through multiple channels has lag in the display of the name of the newly selected channel updating
  • When selecting a recorded program, it shows only the episodes that have been recorded (good) and when they were recorded (also good), but when you move up to select the episode (so you can browse through the different recorded episodes), the display changes to when the catch up for that episode expires (which is irrelevant, ads the episode has been flagged as recorded, so catch up expiry date shouldn't be shown anywhere). It does the same when selecting the episode from the TV Guide, shows recording date when play recording is selected, catch up expiry date when watch catch up is selected (why is this even an option for the same channel and time of the recording of it?), but select the episode info-box and it changes to catch up expiry date.
  • I had The Chase (evening, before One News) on live rewind, let it play through to the news was on, then rewound. It displayed as playing One News, rewound past the news back to The Chase and the progress bar updated to display progress through the chase as expected, but still displayed One News as the show. Also, why can't we rewind or fast forward through on a catch up to the previous or next show if catch up is supported for it (maybe not for catch up when selected from TV Guide, but when you get there through pausing or rewinding live TV, you should be able to)?
  • When starting a recording or catch up, the now playing status overlay sticks round for too long (also, covering the whole screen for this is a bit unnecessary when starting a recording playback).

On the Vodafone Gen2 Retail TV box I found that I can't use the Dolby setting if I want the volume key on the remote to work and instead I have to swap to the Stereo setting to control the volume on my Sony Bravia KDL-60EX720 television connected to Sony Blu-Ray Home Theatre system. Is this a bug?

Anyone managed to get this configured on a Logitech Harmony remote?

The statement was correct at a general level 90 days is the typical storage time, some are stored for longer, some for shorter periods.  News, in particular, is problematic for the channels to supply long cloud storage times as each news programme will contain content from up to 30 different content suppliers (CNN, BBC, Fox, etc) each with different cloud retention periods.   Most of our customers find that the 3 day rewind is a great feature for catching up on News.

Over 90% of programmes can be restarted (calculated as all linear programmes that can be restarted divided by the total number of linear programmes in any period).

Restart rights are not available on all programmes as Vodafone respects the cloud copyright restrictions negotiated between the channel providers with the original content owners.  "Restart" is a specific enhanced right supplied to content broadcasters.  Sky has managed to obtain consent for restart from almost all their suppliers, for example.
