Kodiack:

Chorus came by several days early today and was able to install both inside and outside. MyRepublic provisioned what they needed to on their end, and I now have fibre!! The improvement is already massive, especially with regards to latency. In-game latency has dropped from 44+ ms with a lot of fluctuation to a solid 32 ms. Latency is virtually unaffected by anything, even speed tests. I get lower latency now to Auckland than I previously did to Wellington.

Connection speed is also fantastic, of course. I'm breaking 200 Mbps on YouTube with ease, and speed test results are consistent and awesome.

Loving this so far! Contemplating moving some stuff that I host remotely to in-home now, especially since I expect the connection will be more reliable. :)

excellent long may it last laughing

Just been told by VF people that they are replacing modems on FibreX due to issues with manufacture from their supplier. It will take a bit of time, but my monthly fee has been changed accordingly for a further 12 months.

That's good to hear.

Mine dropped out both yesterday and today just from me uploading stuff to Google drive, it's the first time it has done since the firmware update rolled out.

He indicated it was a full rollout but obviously wouldnt happen overnight. But I am happy again with the great price. It was the retention's team i dealt with.

@mikeb4 or @gaddman - can you please comment on this.  Does this also mean we will all receive a new discounted rate? Seems only fair to give it to all - not just one.

That was only a secondary question.... I am really interested in the replacement rollout.

following the 45 minute outage yesterday and my alarm shows an outage over night my speeds again have dropped considerably. Using VF Wellington is Download 129.43mbps and 96.25 upload. To ASC Data download is  131.95mbps, upload 96.59mbps. I sincerely hope that after a period of over 900mbps that we are not seeing a return of the disastrous service'

@MikeHales  @gaddman

edit; its getting worse talking to VF now or should I say on hold with VF

cut off three times trying to talk with VF, then they tell me I have to put the HG659 back on before they will look at it. I cannot physically do that and tried to explain that to the *cough* person I spoke with.

It does make sense .....you do seem to have a lot more issues than most and are not using VF hardware.

With respect no it does not make sense when they know  there are issues with their modems and their nodes.  I have also been through that previously and it makes no difference. It has nothing to do with the Router

Cough!... Mike certainly knows what he is talking about here.  The HG659 is fine for 200/20 FibreX like @Pumpedd has.... but seems to drop at times for gigabit.

There are many on geekzone that are using their own routers.

I am on 200/20 and get drop outs but my "reported" speed is OK most of the time.   I have not bothered to figure out if the problem is with the modem or the router (or a combination of the two).

If VF are rolling out new equipment due to manufacture problems then does that not suggest that using your own router should be better if that is the issue?
