adamj: 021700700 I expect to pay mobile rates for as I know thats a Vodafone mobile number and I know I pay mobile rates to call 021 numbers. The fact is I am NOT calling a mobile and therefore any pricing plan that states a rate for calls to 'NZ Mobiles' should not include Non-Mobile numbers. It doesnt say calls to 'Non-Geographical Classified Numbers' now does it.

You've just contradicted yourself there. 021700700 doesn't have some guy with a cellphone on the other end of it reading out all your messages for you, so under the above scenario you wouldn't have to pay mobile rates for that call because it's not a mobile. Seems silly to me. But that's just me.

02 - Mobile / Pager
03 - South Island
04 - Lower North Island
0508 - Toll free
06 - Lower-mid North Island
07 - Mid North Island
0800 - Toll free
09 - Upper North Island

I am in at work at the moment, just asked some people here (3 of them) in the office and all agree that they would not expect to pay mobile rates for a call to a non-mobile voicemail number regardless of the prefix. I work with IT people

Go make thousands of calls to 021 700 700 then. I'm ending this before I get too emotional

OK let me clarify. I would expect to pay mobile rates for any mobile service number. I know calling an 021 number costs me, and 021 700 700 is part of a mobile service. But the thing is I AM NOT CALLING A MOBILE SERVICE.

Well no, this includes other numbers (International Toll Free aparently and some non-geographical fixed line stuff (VoIP) so I dont accept this. I'm not calling a mobile service

With number portability you have to find out what network a number is on and what calls from your network to that network cost, you can't assume anything.

The good old days where calls to xx prefix simply cost $xx are over.

I have 2talk and pay them for local numbers to avoid any confusion around 028

To bring this thread back OT, I had a reply from CallPlus yesterday (after a month of not replying, a quick email to the NAD gets a response almost immediately), regarding not being able to call their 028 ranges from WxC (and a couple of international carriers).

They admitted to making a "genuine mistake" in the length of the numbers, and are going to have "internal discussions" with WxC about the issue.

I've forwarded the response to the two international providers in question as well, who are reviewing their policies of not routing any calls to these numbers due to non-compliace of the NAD rules.

Hopefully, this should now mean 028 numbers will be callable from any network in the not too distant future.
