Behodar: I'm at TechEd and I've heard "Internet of Things" quite a bit this year. That implies that it's a separate Internet (one specifically for "things") but it's actually the same Internet that we're using today!

When referring to the 'Internet' what most people really mean is the WWW. The 'Internet of Things' is basically refers to internet-capable devices uniquely identifiable on the WWW. They are actually two different concepts :)

Yes, that is what I said. I also said that when the average person out there refers to the Internet, they are specifically referring to the WWW. The Internet of Things refers to the actual interconnected devices (things like Wifi connected heatpumps and heart rate monitors) and the services they provide, outside of mere Hypertext.

I agree. I think for most people 'the internet' is absolutely all of it - things, cables, lines, websites etc etc etc. and as the saying goes, perception is reality!

Aaaanyway.

I'm sure Vodafone has just as much idea as Spark, or any of the retailers, when the iPhone will be available, in what quantities and at what prices.

That's how Apple rolls.

Actually, having just listened to Nathan's excellent talk at TechEd 2014, and spent some time in the Hub talking with the Microsoft Folks and trying out all of the devices there is a strong likelihood that I may switch to a Nokia Lumina. Should be able to pair it with whatever surface pro is out at that time.

For me its really around the experience of Bluetooth/Wifi mobile tethering - and being an Office 365 user. I'm not a fan of the tiled interfaces (too much cognitive load [thinking]) but if I can re-imagine my usage process that might be turned into something that can work for me.

I'm also just waiting to see if IOS8 allows third party apps to use the alarm functionality (so I can wake up to Internet Radio) - if not, then I may just write a small Windows 8.1 alarm application (might even try and see if I can get windows 8.1 to wake up to radio, but transmit it via Bluetooth to a hifi).

Can you remember how long the shipping time was?

Actual shipping from China was only 3-4 days...but as already stated Apple make this longer (2-3 weeks) to allow retailers to sell contract deals first.

If you look at the american Apple store it seems to me that it can only be purchased on contract from a service provider.

for a 16GB 6

On the London Daily Telegraph the tech reporter Harry Wallop made a mockup of the 6 Plus from plywood and took it out on the street to see what people thought of it. It's fun watching the video of them trying to get it in pockets and handbags!

I still want the big one but I think it was wise to make two sizes.

Can't see myself going with the Phablet-sized 6Plus.

I like the idea of a pocketable (but larger than my 5) iPhone.

I'm looking forward to it being available through VFNZ, but will wait until the noise dies down and all of the various bugs are ironed out before I talk to VF.

At the end of the day, every iPhone launch has had its quirks...discoloured screens, overheating units etc etc...
