This is.direct distance from cabinet. It would be length of.the copper.
This for a new.connection, when it is live I will see speed.
I know what you mean about long and winding road.
But in this case the cable goes across the creek on poles cutting out 5klms

Well, all you can do is get it connected and see what happens - but John is correct, it may not be taking the most direct path to your house.

700 meters would be OK for VDSL

RunningMan:

The >5Mb/s area indicates a long line between you and the exchange or cabinet you are connected to - the only solution to this is move house (i.e. closer).

Not quite true. 5Mbps areas are also areas that are ADSL1 BUBA areas on an ASAM or Conklin. If you look at the may overlays you can see if this is the case because the cabinet or exchange will have 10Mbps+ and/or VDSL2 around the exchange or cabinet. If it doesn't have this and just a 5Mbps area then it's likely to be an ADSL1 connection.

Based on the minimal information the OP has posted so far there is nothing to suggest there is infact a problem. They're very likely to be on an ADSL1 BUBA connection off an ASAM so their connection is working as expected.

You cant view modem / dsl stats on the vodafone station.

The best you can do is uplink / downlink speeds under 'settings' or on the 'internet' screen of the modem itself

johnr: 700 meters would be OK for VDSL

this new connection is for my son and it should have been very straight forward
the previous tenants had ADSL with vodafone which they said worked fine.
however when i tried to get a connection for them there were several problems
first the chorus map showed no coverage.
the house was surrounded by dark brown 20mpbs coverage but the dwelling itself was in the white , no coverage.
so 90% of the ISPs said there were no services at that address.
so  i decided to stick with voda because it had worked there.
next problem the google map that vodafone uses put the correct house no in the middle of a creek and the wrong no on the house.
i ended up using a district council map with LINZ to locate the exact address.
it is now stuck in something called the procurement office, but it has been flagged as urgent
