Another question:

     >I see that a number of friends and colleagues have recently been taken off the copper and had their 'landlines' replaced with 4G wireless set ups<

I recently visited a friend in an apartment building where they had their Vodafone land-line replaced with a wireless set-up, complete with new modem etc, meaning in effect their ADSL connection has been replaced.

Does this mean that Vodafone are now providing internet at the same price, data-cap, speed etc etc that existed under their original contract?  I have yet to view my friends documentation from Vodafone so would be interested to know what the 'norm' process is.

Still confused …. Vodafone web site still offers DSL and ADSL internet but if you also want a telephone then it will now be VoIP, AND that the telephone jacks will no longer work.

Does this mean that ONLY the copper telephone system has ceased, but the jackpoints will still carry DSL/ADSL internet?

I'm also confused just re-signed to renew my contract for two years. As part of the sign up process I was advised that a tech would contact me within three to five days to do the speed upgrade and switch me to VOIP. After nearly two weeks and getting dicked around I now have been advised that a tech visit is not needed and at some stage I will switched to VOIP. This was also told to a friend of mine who is also waiting for the VOIP upgrade on the Docsis 3.1 network.

Surely this is a breach of contract, I'm not getting what I was told i would get by the retentions department at vodafone.

froob: Anyone know if/when they are planning to move existing HFC customers to VoIP? I should probably get around to a bit of wiring at the in-laws’ house in preparation.

As it happens, my in-laws signed on for a new term and now have gigabit speeds, VOIP and the new Vodafone TV. The main problem is Vodafone cut off their existing phone line before the VOIP is up and running, and have said it will take 3 days to set up. They have at least put a mobile divert in place in the meantime. Not ideal.

The rep they spoke to also gave them some misinformation on the Vodafone TV by the sound of it, around the limitations on recording and no visual rewind/fast forward having been resolved.

Yes vodafone are really not keen to continue Purchasing POTS lines.

It's one of the reasons i've deliberately been avoiding making any sort of change to my VF line..

i see both positives and negatives to it, suppose to sum it up though i feel it can't be one glove fits all in this age.

Slightly OT but is it correct that Vodafone are finding it hard to source parts for their DMS 100/200 switches hence the pressure to switch more of their customers to VOIP.

They want to decommission them, hence the reason for the migration. With Spark also decommissioning their NEAX switches it makes no sense to have customers on multiple different platforms when everybody can simply be on VoIP.

Now if only they simply had baseband ip capable linecards sitting around ;)

@sbiddle … thank you.

I see that a number of friends and colleagues have recently been taken off the copper and had their 'landlines' replaced with 4G wireless set ups.  I was wondering what Vodafone was planning for us HFC customers.

As already mentioned my understanding was all new HFC customers are now CPE based VoIP rather than copper.

I haven't heard what VF's plans are, but they'll obviously want to decommission their Nortel switch in Petone at some point. Considering how long it's taking them to shut down the old MPEG-2 based cable TV network due to lack of budget, and the fact pretty much everything at VF is on hold due to a lack of budget that probably happen any time soon!

Are there really people still using the silver STB's? ouch
