First, I would like to thank JohnR, 14 minutes on the phone with him cleared up all the questions I had been asking Vodafone since I before began this thread. Vodafone should clone him :)

I went down to the Vodafone store I signed up at and checked my contract, and yes JohnR was right, I signed up for 24 months, my memory is shocking - I thought it was twelve. Vodafone are within their rights to charge me this amount, $560 / 14 months left on contract = $40/month I was paying (well base, I went over by about $300/month.)

I walk away from this with a bitter taste in my mouth, the only reason I left Vodafone was because I couldn't make calls at home in Parnell and the speeds on 3G were 2G type speeds, and terminating my contract ends up costing me more money than buying a iPhone at Retail by just under $200.

I paid $742.75c for the iPhone which retails at $1,129.

10 months into the contract, I move to XT, and yes legally I had to pay out the contract, but the termination fee means I end up paying $1302.75 for my iPhone, much more than retail.

There's a committment on my behalf to pay out the contract, but no give on Vodafone's side to fix their problems or give a allowance for them not being able to provide service, I understand that there will be black spots, and not everyone will be able to get coverage, even in the inner city of Auckland but for those that can't and have signed up on a contract on the believe that they can are basically left to pay for the remainder of the service they cannot get.

I still am thinking of going to the Telecommunications complaints people to see if there can be some give and take. It's not like Vodafone has not got a lot of money out of me.

According to the Vodafone Website, your termination fee should only be $280 if you are on the iPhone $40.00 plan.

I honestly think I am cursed for Mobile phone service, XT did mute the call, but as a whole after changing to XT I have had a huge reduction in problems from the places I make calls, and the speeds of 3G are very quick.

I understand that XT will get more loaded with users, but I don't routinely drop calls as before.

It all makes me want to go back to live in a cave some days.

Again thanks John for helping out. I may not like the answers but at least I got them :)

Contract signed was not for a iphone plan

Yeah, I was on the Talkzone 36/36/10 plan.

In hindsight, wonderful hindsight, I should have been on the iPhone $130/month plan and paid $349 instead of $742.75 for my iPhone and then $280 instead of $560 for termination, it would have saved me around $800.

Meh. I throw my hands in the air, admit that Vodafone outsmarted me and got me to spend more money than I needed to and move on.

Second that, Clone John, I'd still be with Vodafone if I could get things just "done" from the regular channels. (or even just get through on those lovely high quality Egypt lines with calls failing 80% of the time)

How do you go about requesting your contract?

I'm on a contract with VFNZ however don't believe I ever signed a contract nor was I involved in a Voice Verification over the phone. I know I'm on contract, I'm just wondering what VFNZ have to back that up if I was to ask. Curious really, don't plan on jumping ship anytime soon.

IMHO vodafone on prepay has been great for cost management for low volume use AND that vodafone only require a top up of at least 12 months.

The only reason to go to XT was for coverage, but after 6 months a topup must be done or any existing credit gets lost and acct closed. For that reason i'll keep the vodafone numbers just in case.

If vodafone can improve coverage might keep more happy?

If it makes you feel better i outsmarted Vodafone today :) and will be using there own money to pay my $500 termination fee :)

Only had to do this as they would not wave my termination fee to rejoin back onto there network.

So I now have a smaller contract, a new iphone that i am selling on trademe and will be about 350 dollars up on the whole deal :)

I went down to the shop I signed up at and asked for it, the guy went out the back and found it and showed me the original.

I was very tempted to rip it up, or simply run out of the shop with it but I restrained myself haha.

Yeah, I'm going to small claims. Don't mind paying out my contract if I decide to move for a better deal, but I moved simply to get reliable phone service. Never been through small claims before, it will be a interesting learning experience.

Have you ever had a Vodafone Mobile at that address before signing your 24 month term?

Wow, good luck with that, do you really think you have a chance?  Have you tried TDR as a first step?  I'd think small claims would be a last resort.

I hope you have a record of your 10 months of complaints and their inaction?  Otherwise the question might be raised about why you waited 10 months to leave and only left when a better alternative came about.  I'm sure they don't guarantee 3G speeds and it wouldn't have taken 10 months to discover you couldn't make calls at home.  Did they keep promising to fix it but never did?
