Thats what they told me after offering me the plan - "we will need to check your node with the tech people" - then they rang back to say its not available.

My guess is that if there is a large takeup of lightspeed plans on your node then it wont have the capacity to handle someone on warp as well. If thats not the case then they are not able to do it at all as I'm sure that there wont be a whole heap of warp users on my node- which means that they advertise a product that they cant yet supply.

Will be interesting to see how you get on Mauricio.

As far as I'm concerned the 25Mb plan is just for PR so they can say they offer it. With no real intention of rolling it out to.. Virtually anybody.

Because I need more than 80GB this month and it will cost more than the 120GB plan at the end of the month.

Basically I decided to move my iTunes movie backup from Mozy Pro (Windows Home Server) to Mozy Home (laptop, unlimited). The difference in backup cost will pay for the different plan for a few months alone, making it viable.

The plan is available, it's just that not all nodes can support it due to the current DOCSIS2 network being at capacity in some areas.

The DOCSIS3 serevice will improve things dramatically due to the channel bonding, the first of the new DOCSIS3 Cisco CMTS's goes live in Wellington this week.

No kidding. Here's the article by the way. It also says:

The bigger benefits will come later this year when TelstraClear starts offering new internet plans that will offer faster headline speeds, for which customers will need new Docsis3-capable cable modems. Speeds of 100 megabits per second should then be possible, Mr Lee says

"Later this year" - great, not even "soon". That translates to about mid 2012.

It also says

The number of cable modems attached to the cable networks is growing at a rate of about 25 per cent a year.

Which is interestingly worded, because that's not customers - that's just modems, which means if you have cable TV as well as broadband, you'll have 2 modems. It's entirely possible that all of that growth is in TV modems, not broadband (unlikely, but possible). TV modems don't exactly saturate the network.

And finally

TelstraClear has not said whether the new plans will also provide higher data caps.

Ha. They're probably figuring out if they can get away with upgrading people to the new speeds without giving them a bigger cap, without enduring bad press. Wink

No update yet Mauricio? When they checked for me they had an anwser within half an hour.

Maybe they are waiting till the end of the week for the upgrades to be completed in Wellington as sbiddle says and will then call us all back and tell us its now available :-)

The point is sort of that you shouldn't see it though Laughing Or at least, that any cutover should be completely painless.

A number of Wellington nodes transferred to the new CMTS last night. Everything looks just fine at the moment---even despite the weather. These were some of the most heavily populated nodes. The transfer will continue over the coming weeks.

Somehow never believe in a help desk that says "we will call you back with that information". And knowing TelstraClear's reputation with customer service I am not waiting this call to happen. But you never know. Surprise me!

Damn. I have to bite my tongue now. Just got a call telling me WarpSpeed is available in Johnsonville and my plan can be changed.
