harldy anyone outside but what about the users in Buildings close by

Yes I do realize that. It's more or less since people have been reporting bad speeds around that area. I would say since it's in City Centre it will be just congestion. Might try another couple of tests tonight before I head home and see if things change.

Any speed test is a snapshot, based on cell load at the time. If I do 4 or 5 in a row I get variations in download speeds from 1.7-3.5Mb/s and 0.6-1.2Mb/s in upload.

If you're standing in plain view of a site I doubt which way you hold the phone (unless it's a death grip on your iP4) will make much difference as you'll have a solid signal.

Ive got a 3GS and while it doesn't have a death grip position it definitely makes a difference unless you are less that a meter from a cell site antenna like i am now .

BTW it is an in building system, otherwise i might not be quite as happy :)

Ham: Maybe my iPhone is broken... im getting .44 down and .09 up on 3G. GPRS won't even load a page most of the time.

Are you in a LOW 3G coverage area?

What model iphone have you got?

No. 4-5 bars 3GS running latest iOS. Tried a couple of spots around Chch and usually it's that slow, the odd occurrence I will get above 1mbps but very rare.

The speeds are your iPhone, not the network.
The iPhone has poor modem firmware which can cause some faults with connecting to Mobile Networks.
If you get a chance, drop into Vodafone and get a Android Device :)

Lol. Is it on the house? If not I'll live with this one for another 8 months, then look at my options.

This is not entirely true. I get really good speeds in AU with my Optus SIM.

Are higher data caps on the way to match the increase in speed? That would be nice :)

I wish Christchurch got this special treatment. Just did a speedtest from home, had to force my phone into connecting to the 3G network (as usual here) - once it was connected I was getting full bars.

Speedtest (Christchurch):
297ms Ping
630kbps Down
922kbps Up

That's in Northwood Christchurch, as soon as I stopped the phone from being forced to connect to 3G it dropped back down to GPRS, how depressing. I wish I could get the kind of speeds as Auckland is getting.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S, running Android 2.2.
