No, they cant just flip people onto new plans, and if someone opts out of recieveng news about plans etc then they CANT inform them because they could cause hassles by making a spam complaint about it.

Telecom are a different company nowadays.

Perhaps you should have promised never to return to Telecom while Theresa is at the helm.

Hmmm... I did think about Theresa Gattung before I made that post and I could not care less about how different they are now. Telecom should have thought about the long term consequences, before they gave a person the power to piss a person off so much they would never use Telecom again once competition became available. Ultimately, it was Telecom that gave Theresa Gattung the power to make monopoly profits while potentially ruining their brand forever in the minds of people like myself, so it is Telecom which is to blame and not Theresa Gattung.

I'm sure Telecom couldn't care less about my little boycott. But their exorbitant prices prevented my web based business from progressing, at a time when the most important thing was to not just be the best, but to also be first.

I can't ever prove it, but I believe that the amount of revenue web based businesses lost due to their excessive pricing far exceeded the profits they made for their shareholders.

Capitalism at it's worst!

reven: flip side, when telecom (i think it was telecom) stopped unlimited and said everyone would have to switch to a different plan, they enforced this. so why not the other way around. if a old plan is so much more expensive and no longer available to new customers, shouldnt they at least email/call them up and explain to them about their new options?

$2470 to a teleco isnt that much, but happy customers is.
not saying they should just instantly refund, just saying it never should of happened.

Also, one unhappy customer will pass on their dissatisfaction. So they could lose alot more than that customer.

Telecom doesn't think, its share holders don't think, whatever you want to call them, that is kind of the point. They don't think! At least not enough. I'm sure that the shareholders did not elect the board without thinking, at the very least about their ability to make short term profits.

You are right though, it's lame of me to blame Telecom for my business not flourishing when I only had to pay them $0.20 per megabyte overage or $204.80 per gigabyte above the 10GB per month limit to run a very content heavy site. I could have flown to California on a monthly basis and put content on my servers directly for less cost (if it wasn't a daily task). Or I could have just moved there and eliminated Telecom from the equation all together. That would have been good for my business, that would have made it flourish! Not so good for Telecom or the NZ economy though, and I would have missed my friends and family, but at least I would have been wealthier.

The point is that Telecom's brand is forever tarnished in my mind no matter how foolish or lame or irrational or stupid anyone thinks it is. I don't care how brilliant their cell phone network is, and how infrequently it has outages south of Taupo, and how much their 018 directory service has improved since being moved to Manila, and the speed at which they follow up customer complaints of obscene text messages from their own call centres. If I choose to never give them any more of my money after they've royally shafted me for years and divided the proceeds to their shareholders, because I believe they charged excessively that is my choice. My foolish, lame, irrational, stupid choice! But it is my choice and my personal protest.

In my mind my decision is no more lame than not returning to a restaurant that provided bad service or gave me food poisoning, boycotting irresponsible oil companies, or not voting for a mayor again who campaigns on one idea then does a complete U-Turn the moment they are elected.

aren't they usually post a letter to you if there is a new plan comes??? errr... it really depends

now days, they inform you because of there is a price increase on the broadband package haha

If I were a shareholder I would want someone maximising the companies profits for sure, in fact I would have no objections to owning Telecom shares today, if I thought they were a good investment.

As a business owner however, I will not use their services again.

I think it is up to the customer to keep informed, unless the old plan was being phased out. They can easily contact the company or view the website

While I agree with everyone on here that it's the buyers responsibility to make sure they are getting a good deal preferably on a regular basis, I would like to quote this companies Chief Executive Allan Freeth only a few days ago from their own press release...

“Because the plans we offer are simple and cost-effective for customers, we’re able to move quickly and make substantial price adjustments to benefit our customers. A similar thing happened last year when we doubled internet data caps, at no additional charge, on many of our residential plans.”

He is talking about res not biz.. lol mess with a biz plan and you can be in big trouble.

It's a bit vague really, and I'm sure that bringing the per GB cost of a plan down wouldn't rattle too many business customers!

Reminds me of their high speed ADSL service where you get 50GB for $150 or whatever, then the next 50GB for $5000. And their monitoring system can't tell you when you go over or alert you...

TelstraClear run a good network, but their billing is weird and freaks me out.
