Thanks Vodafone, it was good. Hopefully these changes coming up will be good.

Good to have the 6 months notice at least.

I was finally convinced to move across to these plans on my next billing cycle, a quick chat to the service desk has had this change cancelled. Always been good dealing with the online chat service. And now I will remain on my open term non 'smart' plan.

Certainly not going to diss V-Fone for a great deal that was always flagged as temporary, to be frank I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

That said, unless their new deals are very good I may well change to 2degrees when the current deal ends (Telecom still not an option, smartphone options more limited with their network frequencies). I have as much loyalty toward V-Fone as they do to me: none. I'm loyal to my bottom line only, as they are to theirs. If their new deal meets my needs better than alternatives I'll stay, otherwise I'm gone by lunchtime.

I decided to take the leap onto a Smart plan about 12 months ago. I got a great price on a Nexus and even more of a discount when I asked nicely so with another 6 months to go Ive got a pretty good deal out of it.

I use between 1.5 and 2Gb pretty regularly each month as I listen to a lot of podcasts and stream radio from the UK when Im out and about and its been fantastic to use the phone as a proper mobile device.

So Ill continue on VF for the next six months whilst keeping my eyes and ears open to whatever 2D and Telecom do. But come Jan2012 Ill be looking to move to whoever gives me the most data, thats all Im interested in now.

2degrees offers the best data value in their 3G coverage area.

$150 = 12 GB for 6 month, equals to $25 per month for 2GB

at the moment i am outside their 3G coverage. but hey, in 6 months time, i will be moving into 2degrees mobile broadband zone.

1 gig would be manageable, but I'd have to keep an eye on my usage. I get 6-700 on windows phone, and I know I would use plenty more on Android

Vodafone can't expect people to start using their full 3GB of data straight away, considering telcos here in NZ are so stingy on data. You have to let the market get used to that amount of data, and slowly they will start to find ways of utilising their allocation.

Lol, don't get a SGS2, on my last phone i was lucky to use 300~400mb on the S2 700~800mb seems to be the norm even though i don't feel my usage habits have changed that much :P TBH i'm glad i got the S2 on VF contract as the $500 subsidy i received is more than the cost to buy out of the contract and being quad 3G band it is usable on any of the three local networks = plenty of options!

Translation:

Commercially it doesn't make sense to give away so much data. Customers don't get anywhere close to using that amount so it's not like we are losing much with the offer. However it does make more commercial sense to reduce cap down to crummy levels because the overage definitely makes a lot of commercial sense.

No tethering option, Your kidding me right?

johnr - correct me if I am wrong, but Vodafone (even as far back as Bellsouth) has NEVER made a distinction between tethered data and data on the device in NZ. Its quite different in the USA, but not here.

A Byte is a Byte is a Byte, and Vodafone charge the same for each one of them.
