NonprayingMantis: so you didn't actually mean it?
NonprayingMantis: take Vodafone for example. (which you excluded for some reason) they do $90 for 60GB as standard
NonprayingMantis: for example, Orcon have this website:
http://www.orcon.net.nz/partners
if you are in the Orcon+ network you can get 40GB for $71 -
NonprayingMantis: and that is a permanent price that doesn't expire after 12 months unlike the telstra one where your price is jacked up by $30 once the 12 months 'free 40GB' has eneded. (and this isn't genius, this is normal PSTN)
Lurch: Hmm, paying $66.50. $55 naked with Vodafone which is now 60GB and $11.50 for my VOIP line, 500 minutes anywhere with italk which is more than enough (and more than enough smart phone services than you'll ever need for free).
Of course this doesn't include my cellphone, which you need to get the deal with Vodafone. But then that's covered by work :)
Thanks but no thanks Telstra :)
Bee: We dont use 40GB per month - we use maybe 15 max... we do do toll calls. So what would be really good would be something like 20GB + phone + unlimited 1 hour toll calls for less than $80 a month...
but it seems like finding any plans with less than 40GB will be near on impossible soon... Which is how the ISPs make money as Ive stated before - sell 40GB packages to 50 people who only use 20 - 30GB each. The rest is therefore profit...
NonprayingMantis: You have Telecom at $112 for 40GB which is actually for Total Home ($102) with 40GB (+$10). But Total Home also includes unlimited free national calling. The telstraclear deal doesn't. so to compare like with like you would need to add $15(or is it $20?) onto the TCL monthly price.
NonprayingMantis: Alternatively, if you are just comparing a normal landline and exclude the unlimited national calling, then Telecom has Total HomeBroadband which gives you 60GB for $105, which is less than the $112 you had initially AND has 50% more data.
nickb800: @ DonGould Slingshot now has a $10 discount on homeline in the 3 main centres, bringing them down to $81 per month. Still not close to the $62.50 average, nor is their speed performance up with near TCL's.
Doing your best is much more important than being the best.
Bee: Ok, Finally got my head around this...
So its $75 per month for a phone line??? RIDICULOUS! + 40GB internet...
Or is it $75 per month for phone and 40GB internet + 40GB for free = 80GB ???
Agreed $75 per month for phone and 40GB internet is a pretty good deal but thats not what the advertising says is it???
Definitely misleading advertising going on here Telstra!!!
Edit: Ok so reading Telstra's Website they offer "phone and broadband" for $75. 0GB. Then you add on Data useage... so I guess using that model you are getting the 40GB for free, but I dont think any other ISP does their pricing this way???

60Gb plan is $100 not $90.
$90 gets you 20Gb then you add $20.40 to get 40Gb. So I have added $110.40 as their standard price for 40Gb - yes, I agree that the 60gb plan makes more sense, and that was apparent to me after 3 minutes looking at their web site. So I feel pointing out that the 20/40Gb plan doesn't represent value is a good thing.

Agreed. As per my other comments, I'm not factoring extra value, just comparing the KPIs that I indicated.

That is not a 40gb plan and I am comparing 40 Gb plans.

You seem totally confused...
Per my graph above, it's basically an averaged price of $62.50 for a phone line and ADSL connection with 40gb of data per month with a total cost of $750 over the next 12 months.
