I'm sorry, but I don't think most people do agree with you. Many of us who understand how the internet works certainly won't either. IMHO your comment is akin to saying "all beer is bad" because somebody chooses to drink Ranfurly.

80% of NZ premises receive a mimum of 10Mbps sync speed to their door. Around 40% of NZ premises are capable of receiving VDSL2 with 50Mbps down and 10Mbps up. These are world class stats by any standard and show the results $1 billion spent on a FTTN deployment has delivered.

If you're not receiving these speeds you firstly need to

a) sort out your internal wiring, this will typically mean paying $199 for a master filter

b) move to an ISP that has sufficient bandwidth to meet their customer needs.

Those people that are competely oblivious to the fact their house wiring is the single biggest bottleneck when it comes to delvering high speed DSL servicec need to get things fixed, and those who sign up to cheap flat rate ISP's and complain about speeds need to move elsehwere.

Mobile is a totally different ball game. Mobile speeds in NZ once again are fantastic by world standards, and while some may disagree with pricing at least the networks aren't flooded. I'm happy to pay a premium price to ensure what I can get decent speeds when I want them.

I think anyone who complains about companies stealing anything or being a ripoff just have no idea about economics.

It there was so much money to be made in selling rock bottom internet then everybody would be doing it.

If NZ has 10x the people and were closer to the US or EU things would be different. But I for one are really happy to live here and find my internet fast and good value.

Folks, please get back to the reasons why a data bundle can not "roll over" or be pro-rated - no more discussion about how [Company A] manage their forums, or who does what there.

People have not been talking about speed. It is the data cap and the lack of flexibility.

Why can't I triple my data?

Why can't I half again my data?

If I double my data why is it lost at the end of the month? (forcing me to use more than I would otherwise)

This attitude of if you don't like it move is ridiculous? Wouldn't, if you don't like it try to change it, make much more sense?

When all you have to eat are plain old crackers you get used to it, maybe the company you buy the crackers off now adds pepper to make the crackers taste better, that's great, crackers with pepper yum, even better you can buy it in sizes of 1,3,10,20,30,60 crackers, fantastic!

Now this same person goes to another country and trys their crackers, except their crackers are really chocolate cake with frosting and fancy sweet decorations and this chocloate cake even cost less than the pepper crackers avaliable here in NZ, and beleive it or not this chocolate cake is huge, some sizes are 500 slices or even 1000 slices, some even all you can eat.

So how come our crackers are so far behind the rest of the world?

Most people would live with pepper crackers if we were charged pepper cracker prices compared to the rest of the world, but when we are charged more than chocolate cake prices and given crackers we would have reason to complain

This focus on speed in New Zealand is one of our biggest problems, most people I know (I live in auckland) have no problem with speed. Its the data cap they worry about.

Having faster internet simply means most people reach their cap faster (I can reach mine (60gb) in less than 24hrs).

Which limits what they can do on the net. Being able to roll over my allowance would be a huge advantage. Some months I use less than 20 other months more than 200 (meant to be 120 but due to the vodafone cut off bug I get around 200 (what i assume is a bug)).

There is no actual reason, the telco's don't want to as it would make their already obscene profits smaller.

I can't say for other ISP's, but Vodafone went for me from a 30GB plan, then added another 15GB, and shortly thereafter went to 60GB without any change in pricing, now I'm happy with that, but how is it that they could manange to pull off a 100% increase in data allowance without any increase in price to the end user? I'm sure they arn't running it at a loss, so this tells me that they we making quite a bit when they were offering the 30GB plan.

How about getting someone from the fixed line broadband team over to this forum to answer a few questions?

It does seem that there are a number of people who would line some answers from someone who actually can answer them!

Who owns Vodafone?
Who owns TelstraClear?
Telecom?
Are all these companies NZ owned?

Why does Aussie have better *insert things here*... sure, they have 5 times the people, but a thousand times the coastline... (where mobile phones work and I can have data coverage) and things are cheaper.

All the "If NZ had more people/was closer to" excuses are just that.. excuses.

*some numbers maybe inaccurate, but i no way, shape, or form make up for some of the pathetic excuses I see for NZ data being such a rip-off

I am part of the VF Voice and I don't recall ever being asked about data caps on Landline. I am not saying I agree with the sentiment of the OP, but I do think that there is a gap in the data plans, 60GB and then 200GB?

I am just wondering why exactly your complaining??? You can't keep you usage inside the plan outline so you opt to buy more and then are getting annoyed that at the end of the billing cycle you lose the top up amount.

Is Vodafone forcing you to buy the optional top up??? Is Vodafone forcing you to go over your chosen data cap???

You are right in saying that other companies allow for the data topup to roll over until used but again your choosing to not be with them.

How about you actually think about how you word your questions instead of starting off going on about how you feel like your ISP is stealing from you and actually just asking if there was any plans to allow for the data topups to be rolled over instead of cleared at the end of each billing cycle.

Lets sum it up you make the decision to be their customer, you choose the plan your on, you choose to buy a topup, you know it's going to disappear at the end of your billing cycle, you are the one who can't at times go oh look i'm nearing the end of my data cap I better watch my usage for the next few days until my usage rolls over.

I also would like to ask what has the goings on another websites forums got to do with here??? Nothing in my books I agree with JohnR if you don't want to play in the sandpit don't (sorry if the quote is a little wrong). If you don't like the T's and C's of your current ISP no one is forcing you to stay with them.

Lastly for the record I am not with Vodafone as a mobile or broadband provider I am with WXC and would love to be able to double my data (offpeak) for $30. I am an adult so am more than capable of managing my data usage do I at times spend more than I would like hell yes but I don't come on here to go waa waa and blame my ISP as I make the choice about who I am with and how much data I use (or my connection uses) no one else so how about you take managing your data into your own hands and be more constructive in how you would pose a question that as you point out many people would probably like to know the answer to......Why can't my topup data be rolled over into my next billing period?
