Mine has gotten much worse as of the last few weeks. I cannot stream youtube without long rebuffering any time of the day despite a 14Mbit sync to the exchange

"any time of day" then I'd say you have some other issue here. During the day, YouTube will stream at 1.5-2Mbps easily for me. Have you raised this with the helpdesk, or done any other troubleshooting?

It still has some way to go, but I think it the worst has past. For example, YouTube would stream around the 200k mark (peak times), with constant re-buffers. It now streams around 300k. Still someway to go, but on the up. But as I said, NZ based websites & content is fine. Also, off peak is fine too.

So stay on xtra for a while until it gets better or move straight across?

Bebo  OK
Tradme  OK
Edge  OK

Checked these out for you, and seems all good. From what usage you describe, I think you'll be fine to make the switch. You won't be locked into a contract, so if it doesn't turn out well, you can easily move on to somewhere else.

I agree, I streamed some videos tonight, and most of them played with no jumping.  however it hasn't buffered much in advance, but then, just as long as I dont have to load the page then pause the vid and come back later, its passable.

Havent had a chance as yet. I did a speed test the other morning and was getting under 200kbps to Sydney, but about 900k to LA, which I guess was going up the other end of the SC cable. Still very low on both counts tho, espcially for a morning (About 10 or 11 am).

Will monitor it for a week or so and call helpdesk if it continues. Local seems fine, think its just international.

I am surprised this thread is still going...

Its the same old stuff people!

No matter what ISP your with, they all have the same problems...and many times the problems experienced are just the customers own experiences, rather than to say the whole service/network is bad...

There are exceptions of course, highlighted when an ISP provides a plan that is exceptionally popular, and they haven't planned to cope with such an influx, or they find such a plan is actually uneconomic...

But really people...if ya think there are that many problems with xnet that it deserves 441 replies...change ISP!

I guess some people get gratification out of moaning and being depressing, rather than moving on and being happy.

I should point out I am a happy xnet customer, it may not always be the best, but I have been through at least 5 ISP's over the years, xtra, ihug, paradise, woosh, xnet...and its all the same.

Meh.

If you took some time to read these last posts you would have noticed they are changed for the positive, please read some before you jump to conclusion.

I posted for the first time in this thread because I have noticed a notible increase in speed during peak times as did someone else which is good news and in no way is moaning about.

I did, and I still see people posting about speed issues, posting their latest speed tests...

Those that are happy, if they were truly happy, they would have no reason to continue discussion in this thread...obviously they are not yet completely satisfied as they keep posting speed tests and comparing etc...

Let the issue die, move on, be happy. If not, be miserable, leave ya to it.

So we only post about bad things happening , and kill the thread when there is improvement?

Definitely better as last night I was able to watch movie trailers again on XBMC.

It's definitely better, no denying that. I only have to pause a YouTube video for about 10 seconds now to let it buffer a little, as opposed to 5 minutes. It could still be a bit better, but it's good to know that they're making an effort Laughing

I did these speed tests last Friday night, from our work connection which sync's at 11MBits, first running the test to Los Angeles under our PPP XNET Work logon, then my PPP XNET Home logon, and the speeds seem vastly different, it appears that whatever fix XNET are doing to speed up international bandwidth is done on a per PPP user logon basis.
