Senecio: Another here please for Harmony integration. Please let us know when it is available.

It was a long time ago but when I did mine (on a Gen 1 box) I used the default "Cable STB" and it was nearly perfect. I think I had to manually program only a couple of buttons.  That's for a Harmony One.

Thanks, but I don’t think that works on these Gen 2 boxes and the remote is Bluetooth. Happy to be corrected?

The Gen2 works with both Bluetooth and IR and the supplied remote does both.

Are the recordings tied to the box or the account?

i.e if need to replace box at when it breaks down will current recordings be lost like they are with MySky.

With no moving parts hopefully it has a longer life span.

They are tied to your account. So with a change of set top box or addition of more boxes.. you’ll be able to keep your existing recordings.

Harmony remotes do indeed work well with the Gen2 boxes (and the Gen1 ones). I have the Harmony Companion set-up myself for testing the official integration with Logitech.

The Gen2 box and remote support both IR and BLE. However, the box keeps on responding to IR even when it has been BLE paired with the remote. (To allow universal remotes to work.)

What the trick to set up? Just search Vodafone TV in the set up app, of manually learn commands for the time being until official integration is complete?

Just got a Gen2 box and will set up tonight. Really want this to work with my Logitech remote.

Unfortunately, the trick right now is to manually learn the remote commands. What makes it even trickier is that unless you have a Gen1 remote, it makes it hard to learn the commands, as it tries to automatically BLE pair with the STB. (You can try to turn off STB, do a factory reset on remote, and wait for its auto-pairing to stop. Factory reset is "Blue" + "Menu" until LED blinks green _twice_. Then enter 9 9 9 9. YMMV)

Thanks for this, which manufacturer and model should I select from the Harmony database?

I set it up entirely manually via Harmony mobile app. Call vendor "Vodafone" and model "Vodafone TV" (or something similar). The app will not recognise the model, but allows you to say that "this is correct" and then takes you into validating a couple of functions (on/off, channel up/down, etc). This gets most of the commands to work correctly. Then you need to manually go in and learn and fix the remaining commands. Painful for sure, but once we are in the official Logitech database, it should be easy. Please note my comment above re challenges doing command learning with Gen2 remote. BLE gets in the way unless you work around this.

Any possibility of getting control via Bluetooth on the Harmony? I don't have one but the newer ones have Bluetooth for integration with things like smart home appliances.

Also, I would be interested in getting a second Vodafone TV remote if the box supported pairing multiple remotes to one box.

How is sky multiroom dealt with, do you sign up for a sky account and can use it on more than 1 box or do you have to pay separate for each box?

Multi-room will work as follows:

  1. You purchase additional VodafoneTV box or boxes from a retailer or through Vodafone online store
  2. You activate your VodafoneTV multi-room boxes via www.vtv.nz. (Just like you did for the first box.)
  3. You add the SKY packages you want via www.vtv.nz and they are instantly available on all your boxes.
  4. If you have SKY, you are charged $25 inc GST per month per additional multi-room box.
  5. For Freeview package only, there is no additional monthly charges for additional boxes.
  6. You can have up to 5 boxes on one account.
  7. All your SKY subscriptions are available to all boxes on your account.
  8. All recordings are available on all boxes on your account.

Hope this helps!

Another new user here and overall a good positive experience so far.
Setup was quick and easy.
The odd user interface issue as covered by others here but nothing major and good to hear Vodafone are working on improvements.
I have an ethernet connection to the unit and quality is excellent.
There seems to be a few seconds of SD picture as the stream is established then decent HD.

I notice once a programme has aired you can no longer record, even though it's still available in the 3 day buffer.
There may be some licensing issues around this, but I would have thought if recording is enabled, it should be available pre and post broadcast.
Any chance this will become available in the future?

Cheers

  • We are investigating if VodafoneTV box can be controlled via Bluetooth on Harmony. Work in progress!
  • Currently the UI of the VodafoneTV box assumes a single BLE paired remote only. Good idea though. We will discuss.
