johnr: Why not just go for the 2GB prepay offer on Supa Prepay then

Thanks, I can't actually see that plan. The closest in supa prepay I can see is a broadband surfer 512MB plan for $30 per month, or broadband lite for $10. Do you have a URL?

Quick question. My wife is also on this $19 plan, she has been using it for about 2months now. It renewed successfully a few days ago.

The vofafone android app says: 29minutes, about 1998 texts and 490MB of data left for the month.

But when she tries to make a call its telling her that she does not have enough credit available to make the call. Its a standard call to my own vodafone number.

Any idea? She has $0 credit in the account but I would have thought their would not need to be any until the next plan rollover.

Cheers

Have you checked how the number is saved in the phone book on the phone?

Call your number by typing it in manually and let me know how you get on

Thanks John. It looked like that was part of the problem.

She was also dialing her voicemail and was not aware that it costs per call.

So all good

Cheers.

I knew it was not a issue on our side (I help look after the Prepay platform)

Each call to Voice mail is 20 cents not matter how long the call into Voice mail is

I always use my included mins to check my voicemails. Beats paying 20c per call when I don't actually use all my included mins every month anyway!

OK Telecom's just beefed up their $19 prepay offering with free calling and texting to Telecom mobiles until the end of summer (http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobile/plansandpricing/big/). Interesting to see what Vodafone and even 2degrees do.

Interesting text just arrived from Vodafone:

Great news! From 01/07/13 your Smart19Data gives you UNLIMITED TXTs to standard NZ mobiles & your casual TXT rate will be 20c/TXT. Info vodafone.co.nz/ppsmart

Yes, I also received that TXT. I'm not sure what's great about my current casual TXT going from 12 cents/ TXT to 20 cents/ TXT

For this reason, I have now put a 2degrees SIM in the second spot of my duel SIM phone. In all probability I will not be renewing my prepay with Vodafone when it runs out - I'll just go with 2degrees instead.

Additionally, Vodafone were charging my wife $1 data charge even thought she doesn't use data intentionally (TXT messages are enough of a challenge for her!) I checked that everything data related was off (Nokia S60) but she was still getting charged $1.00, for as little as 7KB of data /day. I removed all the APN settings from her phone - that stopped it, it also stops her from using any data by choice - but no matter in her case.

2Degrees just looks more and more attractive from our perspective.

You could have called Vodafone and had mobile data disabled on the network side, Maybe Freebees Talk might suit her better

Thanks for the reply Johnr.

For the moment we remain Vodafone customers, but are keeping our options open, as I guess everyone does :)

I seem to recall that the first few MB's of data were to be charged at the old rates (until that data usuage hits $1)? Further investigation lead me to this post by PaulBrislen back in 2008. As far as I was aware this has never changed? Maybe JohnR can confirm? It seems very silly for somebody to be charged $1 for 7K of data.

Data rollover will be good.

I'm pretty certain that's what happened. I cant get the billing info for the period in question to confirm, as it all happened over a month ago now, and billing only shows the last month, but my wife was alarmed when she saw her credit had dropped suddenly, and when she checked online it turned out to be disappearing at $1.00 data charge per day, for very small quantities of data.

Anyway - it all under control now - she doesn't want or use  data, so removing data settings from the phone was a working solution.

Johnr also told me I could have contacted Vodafone to have data disabled their end as an alternative solution.

My understanding was that as a result of losing the court case the billing was changed so that you were now charged $1 immediately, rather than the old partial rating system until you hit the 200kb or $1 mark where data was then zero rated.

Yup, its what makes it now useless to try to use casual data for a GPS tracker.
