sbowness: Can someone give me some clarity as to what the "New phone every year" actually gives you. There is a mandatory trade in of the old phone. How much is that worth? What model of new phone will I get? It's very vague in both the blurb and the T&Cs. I want to know for sure that I will get like-for-like (or something even better) when the time comes.

I just rang 777 with a similar question. Basically you give them the existing packaged phone (currently the S4, HTC One or iPhone5) and they give you a choice of the current equivalent. The implication (and my assumption) is that its at least a like for like.

The thing you may have missed that's worth considering is that you'll have to resign for another 24 months at the end of each year if you want to take/keep the 'renew phone' offer. It's essentially a lock in strategy and a built in break fee all in one.

For my low calling usage, it's making Telecom's offerings more attractive, particularly with their interest-free financing.

Personally, I'd just buy a new phone outright and go for their BYO smartphone option which gives at least $20 per month discount based on the Red Essential Plan.

I'm currently 12 months into a 24 month Smart Data $120 contract. Can I transfer to Red Super at $129 per month? From what I can tell, no, I can't pay Vodafone more money per month without breaking my contract and signing up again?

What's the Family Group thing all about? Very little detail on what you get and is that $65/month? Currently my wife spends about $20/month so it would have to be all singing/dancing to attract her over...

This is why I've recently moved to Telecom (that and the fact I like a data connection that works, albeit with lower peak speeds). I wasn't allowed to upgrade from a Smart Data $90 without a break fee. If I'm paying the break fee anyway, I'm changing provider.

So I'd be interested to know if that's still the case with these new plans.

Inphinity: exactly what I'm thinking. Would be happy to chuck a family on Red from 2degrees, but if I have to break my contract I'm headed to Telecom.

Ditto for me - I am in exactly the same position and would change today if I could do so at no cost.

PB - What's the Family Group thing all about?
- Vodafone RED Family Discounts are a $30 discount for additional connections that are listed under your account. The maximum number of Family Discounts you can have is 4. Only SIM-Only plans can be additional connections i.e. you just want the plan and not a new mobile as you can’t have a Red Package as an additional connection. If you want two 24-month rebated packages, you need to set up a separate accounts.

Inphinity and Peppery - I'll find out about swapping plans etc.

I suggest you ask one of the Vodafone reps on here. I am sure they will look into your situation and see what the can do. I found them very helpful but my situation was a bit different.
