simon14: I just called them again and signed up. They said i had to sign up to the old plan and they then would migrate me to the new Red Network plan in about 30 days.

What a brave one! Knowing how Vodafone CSRs seem to not take notes and forget to action items I would never ever sign up with Vodafone unless the plan was available right there and then.

Expectingto be migrated to the new plan once you are in the old plan? I guess we will hear from you in a month time letting us know things didn't work...

Yes, I don't trust them. That's all.

east: gah! More conflicting information!

On the Ultimate Red Pack page it says "If you go over your limit you can double your broadband data allowance for $5"
But in the signup stage, it says that it will cost you $30!

I can see a lot of early adopters getting pretty angry when they look at their bill and see something completely different to what they were expecting.

There are errors, conflicting information, and inconsistencies everywhere - this is far from being professional. I would have expected quite a lot of the old errors to be fixed when the plans for the Red network were down, but they seemed to have slipped through.

I definitely wouldn't trust them too. They had sign up pages for the Red network, go for them (unless there's some unique issues with it).

What was their explanation for the signup to the non-Red plans anyway?

Vodafone said the Red network plans weren't available yet so they had to sign me up to the old network and then they woudl mirgrate me to the new network as they will be doing for all their current customers who are in the coverage zones.

Even though i already have broadband, they are sending me a free modem (which i'll flick off on trademe).

Because i currently have naked DSL with Xnet, i have to pay the $49 phone line activation fee but i'm hoping to regain some of this cost by selling the free modem.

My Xnet experience has been ok, i love their pricing modle but the international speeds are just not up to scratch as i still can't stream YouTube videos sometimes throughout the day/night.

A maximum of onl 40 gigs is totally inadiquite IMO,

If there were blocks able to be added like xnet and slingshot (IMO the only 2 ISPs to actually get it) then it would be viable, but having broadband that flakes out halfway thru the month and no way to speed it back up again is unacceptable.

Oh, that's a bugger Frown

It's all a bit confusing when Paul says here that "yes the plans are available, they're online":

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=40&TopicId=22646&page_no=3#136404

Also, there is a Gotcha in the fine print:

Offer is only open to customers who:

As Manhinli pointed out on the previous page, customers who sign up are stuck with paying a minimum of an extra $15 per month for Talk 1, which offers pretty minimal extra value IMO.

So, the prices become:  $75 per month until the end of the year and $105 thereafter.  Not quite such a hot deal anymore... Frown

Yeah, same.  I have streamed several YouTube videos this afternoon as a test, and the average download speed is still only 350 to 400kbps.  This means that the buffer only barely keeps ahead of what is currently being played.  Not really good enough IMO.

EDIT:  YouTube speed has now dropped to only 210kbps @5:30pm.  Now we are getting frequent pauses again.  So much for the Torrent plan being the solution to this problem Yell

Think you've missed the bump packs. You can double your data for $5 for the Easy pack, $10 for the Ideal pack and $30 for the Ultimate pack.

You can keep doing that as much as you like. Read the page at the bottom that says "read this page for more info" or similar.

If you don't want to double your data you can opt to go to 64kbit/s for the rest of the month. So, if you've got (for example) 24 hours left you might not want to double your data... or you might. The choice is yours.

There's no need for the broadband to "flake out" at any stage unless you use more data than your limit.

Oh, and the plans are available online right now... not sure what the earlier post was all about. They're there and you can order them.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Paul

I'm on YouChoose so i don't need to purchase a calling package to get the offer.

Erm, not according to your site you can't. From the Ultimate pack page:

"If you go over your data limit again after you've doubled it, well email you. You'll still be able to go online but at a slower 64kbps connection."

So are you saying that we can keep on adding 20GB to the Ultimate pack (Red) as long as we pay $30?

It has been stated that we can only have one "double your data" data block per month:

  • You can only buy one double your data block a month.
... so technically 40GB is the maximum available.
... didn't I talk about the useless-ness of the newer plans before? Smile

That's not my understanding but I'll check in the morning and let you know. As far as I was aware you could keep doubling your data till the cows come home.

Thats not what the page at http://www.vodafone.co.nz/home-phone-and-broadband/red-network/ultimate-pack-red.jsp says, it says that you can double it once, and for $5 for the second 20 gigs. The custhelp pages agree with your pricing, which makes it particually bad value even when priced against orcons data blocks.

If you could double it for $5 as often as you liked, it would be a fantastic deal, but I have the feeling that it wont since that would make a 320 gigs quite affordable and these plans good. With only being able to get one "doubling"  and then being limited to 64k, its not a viable broadband plan for people that need the speed and have varying usage.

How could anyone consider signing up for something when the pages are saying one thing, and staff members something else, and the pages are changing often?? It would just be crazy to commit to something when you dont know what it is.

To me this it a true-to form ihug product launch. Not since ultra has so much misinformation being forthcoming from representitives of the company itself.

Bah.... I was almost keen for a minute there, Just like the YouChoose plans, it's limited to just one "topup" per month.

Best network this far, Saturn. (TelstraClear Cable) Solid 6Mbps/2Mbps
Best pricing model, WorldXchange. (Xnet HSI) The continuous pricing of $1 per GB is great and you can cap it.

Agreed Smile It's just a damn shame you can't get hold of those GBs at a decent speed when you want them though...

Current international speed on a lengthy YouTube clip measured @ 210kbps Yell

Because of the extra $15 per month (minimum) that Vodafone have snuck into their new plans by virtue of the Talk 1 calling plan, I am now looking at Supra Net's Naked DSL plan as mentioned here:

http://www.supra.net.nz/services/nakeddsl/

Is anyone currently signed up with them?

$30 for 20GB for double your data on the Ultimate pack Red - the page has an error on it, make sure of that.

"Double your data" I think is a poor term, and also the fine print for it should be more evenly distributed across all pages (including the help pages - I only found one regarding the number of blocks allowed per month, which I talked about in my last post)

Add overage like the previous plans (broadband 7 was 60GB FS/FS @ $140 with $2/GB overage) and make it flexible like the generation of plans before it (when only bb1, 2, 3, 4 were available there was the selection of cap @ 64kbps or overage or was that the iinet generation?)

You do realise that it's not compulsory right...? Laughing

If only that had held on to their previous packs of included talk 2 into the Ultimate pack Red... that would really give Vodafone a heap of a lot more customers (not sure if it's a good thing though, with the current attitudes of the CSRs)

Unfortunately, it IS compulsory.  I phoned a CSR just now to make sure.

In addition to a Broadband plan, you have to sign up/currently be on either of the following:

-  A YouChoose mobile plan (our whole family is on PrePay now)

-  Any of Talk 1/2/3 calling plans

It's a real bummer that they are now insisting on this requirement, as otherwise I would have signed up for sure.  The kids and my missus all thought it was a great idea Frown
