Maybe that's a location in mind for the Government's mobile blackspot coverage thing? Doesn't look 100 houses but there's a few there.

You missed the point - I have supported vodafone, and convinced many many cellphone users to switch to them from other networks over the years because I set up these units in remote areas, and convinced many in the farming community to switch also because they could get the service at home.
We would even go so far as visiting the local vodafone shop and buy them on behalf of our mutual customers then  deliver/plug them in at no markup charge to the customer if we had a van passing their house.

The least I would expect is vodafone to understand the customers that rely on this service because they trust vodafone to handle this with at least some sort of competency.

We cant get coverage in our office at the Ahuriri industrial area of Napier which I understand from a radio planning point of view as its a difficult area, and so we use a sure signal which now makes it impossible to use their service for our business. I sure as hell am not approving any spend on new phones when we just purchased new ones last year.

There are many more outside of vodafone and RCG tower coverage that rely on them, who have recent model phones less than three years old.

How does this fit with the recently introduced 111 code? Presumably some people will be unable to dial 111 now (assuming no coverage on other carriers).

"...call centre staff available to walk people through the process of setting up WiFi calling."

That will be interesting.

@boosacnoodle Same as other users if they do not have coverage then 111 can not be called from mobile phones

scottjpalmer: SMS from Vodafone just now:

i got the same txt

yet many modern phones are not  working with a viable alternative including my Note10.

Really disappointed with vodafone. Its been a major screw up on their part.

After spending years recommending them to our customers and spending several thousand dollars on getting public units at my cost installed and providing bandwidth to them, I feel quite cheated by vodafone.

The platform is seriously end of life - and out of support for years. I guess VoWiFi is the replacement....

My problem with the suresignal closure is all the ewaste

Not just from the sure signal but also the perfectly good handsets getting replaced to ones that support wifi calling

And then next year the VFTVs..

Be taking mine to eco drop chc if work gets no kickback for return. Add it to the big pallet of routers and illegally pulled out ONTs

From memory they started rolling them out in 2011, didn't they? 4 years is a very short lifespan for a product like that, IMO.

Apparently they'll recycle the SS devices (or your old [now] useless) mobile if you fill out this form: https://www.vodafone.co.nz/environment/mobile-recycling/

Would be awesome if Voda considered deploying Nokia's newer Smart Node Femtocels which are 4/5G

.

That would require new handsets that support VoLTE so potentially same ewaste problem
