I have 2 account phones and every month i spend at least $100, i wouldn't mind if i had to pay $1 everytime i called the csr's,
because 1, i don't really call them, and 2, $1 or $5 isn't really that much in the grand scheme of things.

My line of thinking is, if i can't even save at least $80 in 6 months or so by changing plans / service providers then there is no point.
So i'm happy with signing my life away to vodafone... as long as i can get it back

Comparing call costs between NZ and Australia is very valid, particularly if you're comparing Vodafone with Vodafone. Customer numbers aren't significantly different, APRU is similair and the total investment in both countries is also quite comparative.

The big difference is that you get roughly twice the airtime in Aussie as you do in NZ for the same montly spend.

Well more competition, plus more population results in such things. How do you expect Optus (who bought Virgin) to make money if they were only to have 2 million or so people subscribing to it?

I just dialed into the 0800800021 IVR now to do an annual $20 prepay simcard top-up by remote and what a hideous experience.

firstly I could not dial in to maintain another prepay if I was calling in on a prepay as it would link the number and request pin, Grrrr.

Called in from 027 instead, enter mobile- ok, enter pin , "invalid pin prompted" even though correct pin entered but if I actually enter an invalid pin that prompt did not play and it would just ask for pin again like I had not pushed a button. buggy.

Finally somehow I was told It was after hours for customer service and Afterhours message cut off half way through then I a lady answer (whom was very pleasant), cs rep placed me back to 0800 800 021 where process was repeated, this time successfully accepted my pin first time and topup complete.

I have said this before like a scratched record but the message is not getting through, Fix the automation, it's not only clunky to use but super unreliable.
If someone smart had thought about this, the reduced call centre volumes would have easily paid for a revolutionary revamp of a top class self-service platform.

One good thing though, 777 sms actually worked tonight!

I have no end of problems with vodafones IVR's when calling in from my homephone to either 021700700 or 0800800021 - its deaf.

I used to do my annual topups with recharge card since that was the cheapest way when I could get them at tech for $19, sadly thats no more. Tried at the atm once and that was quite easy.

as zocstar said...the large the population and the more telco's, the cheaper things are going to cost...it's simple maths, more demand + more competitive offers = cheaper rates. no if/buts about it... and for a country our size it's not that bad...

as we get more telco's coming on board the price of calling will drop with competitive offer's. take telstra's new plan of .29c per min and in regards to txt's...from my understandng vf are looking @ bringing in advertising to reduce the cost of txt's...eventually with the possibilty that they are free and @ da bottom of the txt is a add for like coca cola or something...which is pretty dam good idea imo
