When will the online coverage map tool thing be updated?

Also (possibly for johnr): any plans to increase coverage on the Coast? Say south of the glaciers, maybe down to Haast?

Online coverage Map is updated approx once every 8 weeks

Tested it yesterday, seemed to work well John, although it didn't say Punakaiki on the display, it seemed to be a no-name cellsite.

I was suprised it didn't extend too far however; I would have thought you guys would have tried to orient it to extend the signal to Barrytown (over mostly long flat straight land just a couple of k's to the south)?

Much kudos to you John (maybe not you personally, but anyway)...I had excellent 3G coverage down on the Coast, and I think this is enough cause for me to get a Vodem.

Is the K3715 better than the Prepay one currently on offer, for $150? I think you said the former has faster download speeds, yes?

Bump...now that the 3G network is available almost anywhere, are there any speed upgrades planned for the future? I've seen a few speedtest comparisons around the place, and XT is faster...but Vodafone has better coverage.

I'll jump in seeing as John hasn't responded for a while:

The Huawei K3715 (Black) Vodem is better as it supports Category 8 HSDPA (7.2Mbps max) and Cat 5 HSUPA (2.0Mbps max).

The Prepay Vodem is the ZTE K3565Z, which only supports Category 5 HSDPA (3.6Mbps max). It's the price that's its best feature.

Both support 2100/900MHz.

The Vodafone network is constantly being upgraded, and significant speed increases will be observed in coming months.

That is why one Vodem costs twice as much the ZTE Vodem does work well but supports a slower different rate

That is awesome, thanks for explaining that. Looks like the newer Vodem Stick Pro is for me then :)

Next query: if I get one and want to use it occasionally, but access the 1GB on account plan with no term, but not pay if I don't use it, can I get it connected on a casual plan, charge it to my existing VF account, and just call up when I want to get 1GB of data? Or does it need to be on a plan (apart from the casual plan) every single month?

I read somewhere VF (or telecom?) is looking at putting a site up at Mokau/Awakino sometime....
huge hole coverage wise as the signal runs out from just south of Pio Pio and not regained until Urenui (state highway 3)
