olof: All,

We implemented changes on our international caching infrastructure last Friday to attempt to address the YouTube issues. Would appreciate feedback on performance from the weekend and onwards.

Apologies for the delays. This has been a hard one to track down as it only affected some customers.

OK - last night in Khandallah YT wasn't that flash. I would say 50% of the time video was stutteringl constantly buffering and not that usable. In the end for many videos I would have to stop the player and allow the buffering to catch up and have the red progress bar well ahead of the circle that shows current position.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Hi Olof - Karori at approx 11.30pm last night LQ clips would constantly stop and buffer - HD clips not watchable at all without letting them buffer for at least twice their length.

4pm on a Tuesday, I viewed a 4.5 minute clip on Facebook, then viewed a 2.5 minute clip on Youtube. As you can see on the graph, the Facebook clip was completely loaded in less than 1 minute, but the Youtube clip took nearly 2 minutes. Still a bandwidth problem?

Thanks for the update Olof.

My YouTube experience over the weekend hasn't improved since your Friday changes. I just tried again now and the clip stopped to buffer within the first 5 seconds.

(I used to watch YouTube clips without any issues on TCL)

Just after 5:00pm here in Ngaio, on 10Mbps plan, and YouTube seems OK, no buffering. Performance has been OK for past week or so, although on odd occasions performance is patchy.

No change for me either. Still horrible performance, buffering every few seconds. I started this thread 2 months ago.

olof - you talk about caching. I don't think this is the issue, as performance is variable based on NZ peak times.

@olof: YouTube is back to normal/good status for me now (actually since sometime over the weekend).

I'm in Kapiti, never had a single problem... not that I'd shed a tear if id10tube died altogether :P

I'm in Upper Hutt using Cable, and the YouTube performance has been terrible for at least the past 3-4 days.  Its much slower than normal at loading.  Clips are taking 3-4 times their length to load.

(Most YouTube watching in our house happens 6.30-7.30am or 5-8.30 at night).

Sunday night, 10:30pm, very, very average performance i.e. buffers every 20 seconds or so. How hard is to get this fixed on permanent basis?

I had a couple of better spells on YouTube recently, but then it reverts to poor performance - like tonight: YouTube clips are currently buffering every few second again. My ~$70 per month Broadband bill from TelstraClear is supposed to allow me to watch YouTube! Getting annoyed with TelstraClear...
