MikeyPI: Interesting note from AT&T iphone T&C's "Eligible data plans cover data usage in the U.S. and do not cover international data usage"
Ham: When this 3GB data is gone on the smart plans is there any option of purchasing additional "blocks" of data or are we stuck paying $0.25/MB?

All I can say is watch this space
MikeyPI: If you cant afford it dont use it. Its not oxygen...
euanandrews: Why do people continue to moan about not having unlimited internet...everything has a cost.
If the OTA really wanted more data, all you need to do is select a larger plan...
Vodafone have 3G for $80 on account, and you can double your data for only another $10, so 6GB for $90...
Myself, I use Vodafone mobile broadband 100%...I dont use wifi or adsl...I use it on my N900 which views websites in all their glory, and I also use it at home, as I tether my HTPC alot...
And what I have found, is I use on average only 3G a month....so the double data which offers 6G is more than suffice.

As noted this is the same for any New Zealand mobile operator. Didn't you know that? If you didn't know, there's the reason of "bill shock" that have been on the mainstream media lately - many others don't and think their bundle is valid here and overseas.
Kilack:
If you read through the thread properly, you would see most aren't moaning about not having unlimited internet. They are asking why we pay such huge prices. Yes you can buy whatever data you want here but at very extreme prices compared to overseas.

Extreme according to who? The consumer who knows zero about international cellular networks? People vastly underestimate volume. With an isolated population of 4 million, you don’t think we will have to pay a premium? Craigs Investment Partners put the cost of building XT at $750 million, this has to be recouped, and as they lose money on the $10Txt, you better believe they will get it back through data charges, same as VFNZ.
As I say to all who moan at data charges, and mobile costs in general, build your own national cellular network, and I will happily pay you $10 a month for unlimited data, txt, and calls.

Kilack:
First off yes, I am indeed no expert on the costs of running a network not even close.
Extreme pricing? according to me a customer, I'm one of the people the network was built for.
I call it extreme because comparing it to overseas it simply is.
Kilack:etc but the differences in pricing is huge.
understand that we have a smaller population, that we are isolated, that most of our traffic is international
Kilack:
Given that we have _unlimited_ packages on adsl that argument just doesn't cut it sorry and don't get me wrong I'm not even asking for unlimited data, just more reasonable pricing, they obviously can do it because they gave out 3gigs of data to loads of people on plans for the same price.
Kilack:
As for losing money on 10 dollar txt, where did you read that?
Kilack:
From what i have read sms costs carriers 0 apart from charges between different carriers as the message are sent over control channels which is why they are limited to 160 chrs. There are a lot of artciles on this on the net and how sms is one of the most profitable areas for carriers because it costs them nothing.

Yeah, clap clap.
