Cameronn: Hi Allen,
No change to PPPoA RFC2364 is required when your service changes to ADSL2+,  I'll see if I can get an update from Wholesale on that - shouldn't be too much longer.

Cameron

Sorry to persist with this but...

I thought that with PPPoE & EUBA backhaul that there were improvements to latency because the handover to the ISP doesn't have to go via L2TP tunnel? Is there no significant difference?

BTW my best latency of aprox 50ms doesn't  seem to have improved at all yet since migrating to the new ISLAM. I thought ethernet backhaul reduced latency over the old backhaul?

What does one need to have or do to get sub 10ms latencies that Maverick has?

Allen.

My pings are starting to rise again. Sitting at around 50-60ms to NZ CS servers (on3network).

Again, usually sits around 25-35.

If you referring to the image in the signature in Maverick's posts it's clearly a speedtest from the Xnet/WXC office on a fibre connection.  You are not likely to ever get sub 10ms on ADSL2+. (last mile is copper after all).

EUBA and ethernet backhaul shouldn't have a significant effect on general latency,

Somewhere along the way there is clearly an issue that's causing slightly higher than normal latency for some of you guys on Xnet since the change over, I'm sure they will track down the problem as soon as possible.

Most constructive thing to do is keep providing good information to the Xnet guys, eg: here's a tracert (windows key + r > cmd > tracert www.geekzone.co.nz) to www.geekzone.co.nz on Telecom.

Should I expect better than 45 ms? 45-46 is the best I ever get.

That depends on a lot of factors, I'd say 10-50ms is normal.  Your current 70-90ms is definitely higher than what you'd normally expect.

Can you check the line stats in your modem admin ui and look for interleaving depth?

I wonder if it's some kind of little thing like when they moved everyone to EUBA whether interleaving got put back on by default for all you guys?

Interleaving has always been On on my connection. Don't do gaming. Cameronn from Xnet is recommending to leave it on for VFX.

My Synch speeds are full ADSL1 speeds. ISLAM hasn't been enabled for ADSL2+ yet. I'm still on BUBA I believe? What do you mean "When they moved everyone to EUBA"?

Somehow my interleaving got turned off. Well, I'm not complaining since 10ms is great and no errors. I've always been under the impression anything under 50ms is good, 20ms being great, 100ms being acceptable for urban. Mine used to sit around 50 to 60ms, and when we tried with interleaving off for a while a few years ago it was about 20 to 25ms.

Ok ~50ms is normal for interleaving on.

Most ISP's are moving customers to EUBA if it's available from the exchange/cabinet they are connected to.

if i can get some improvement with interleaving turned off it would be great

i did think pings were quite high... so 60-70 for such sites as google.co.nz and geekzone.co.nz are not normal for most ..

i guess since my isp bill is generally around the $140 mark i should be getting a bit more bang for the buck

While i completely agree, ISP's will simply turn around with the age old "Broadband is a best effort service". Which in my mind was good 10 years ago but these days is bloody ridiculous...

Actually Ragnor this was from my home DSL connection on the Northshore in Auckland, was cabinetised last week btw finally ,  Cameron is getting the info from you guys to us to chase up, at this stage we don't see the issue but are looking as the results you have are a bit strange.

Really? I thought most ISPs were whining that EUBA required an architecture change on their side, and sometimes a BRAS/LNS change...
