Is there any news on whether WxC/Xnet will have new competitive pricing any time soon ?

All those TV adds from Orcon [Genius] and Telecom [Total home] are reminders to me to change

It's a shame about the extra $20 per month "rural" customers have to pay. Makes a mockery of the whole idea it was to encourage investment / increase competition. It's done the opposite. Makes it a lot harder to sell Xnet Fusion, so people stick with good old Telecom :(

Telecom do charge $10 more on their plans for area's other for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Orcon adds are an introductory special kind of like Sky's specials. Once you are a customer Sky does not give you any further specials. Give it a year and the Orcon pricing will be different. Or it is funded out of cutting other services, like a cheap call centre off-shore.

I believe the $20 rural charge is just a passed on fee, it has no profit for XNet.

Yes, I'm pretty sure all providers are forced to pass on the $20 fee, we can thank the comcom for that.

Slingshot certainly adds $20 to my parents' "rural" line, as the same plan in town (at a flat they have) is $20 cheaper.

Yes, certainly one of the dumbest things the comcom has done!
Hmmm, how can we increase competition in the rural areas? Oh I know, lets charge the providers more to put their gear in, or get access to the lines! Yea, great idea!

Why don't more providers do what Telecom Retail does to smooth out the price difference?

ie: Only make the 3 main cities only $10 cheaper, everyone else pays the same.

Ok - so Xnet Fusion is no longer competitively priced for me, plenty of better deals out there now - when are your new plans out? could be time to change iSP's (after 5+ years with WxC) service has been good, but $$$ are important - average monthly bill of $145-150 for fusion torrent, a few mobile calls, super cap A and less than 15GB peak per month is getting a bit steep.

Will new plans be cheaper and bundle a decent chunk of data? 10,9,8,7........

I sorta agree with the sentiments here and have been a customer for several years now myself and although I am fortunate enough to still be on the torrent plan with 75 gig offpeak there are other providers out there now that can offer a similar priced experience without me having to wait til 2 am each day to download stuff I would rather use the night I actually want it (as in oh there it is give me 30 mins and I can have it.

I too feel WorldXChange need to release something soon to keep the customer base current and happy or they could see the competition start to claw away at their market share. I spend approx $100 - $150 per month too for about $120 I can get 100 (or maybe that was 150) gig with no offpeak so could in theory start downloading things anytime. The main reason I have not already jumped ship is the quality and speeds I actually get good speeds mostly 24/7 recently saw the above unamed ISP in action at like 8pm at night and you would have been struggling to watch a low to medium quality streaming clip without buffering every 10 or so seconds.

We're spending anywhere around $150 and up on fusion a month as well and I'm hoping these new plans coming out are going to take some of the pain away. And curses on that bloody twenty dollar a month rural charge. What rubbish.

I haven't got all of the details just yet, but I can wholeheartedly say yes they will be cheaper and some will include data in the cost of the plans.

I know I'm sounding a bit like a broken record but as soon as these plans are confirmed I'll try and get the details out there.
