My friend used to work at the call centre for Telecom. She said that their hands are tied until you say "Vodafone, 2 Degrees etc. gives me this". As soon as the competition is mentioned they can start tweeking deals for you. But don't expect a great deal, they might match the deal, they might beat it but it won't be by much most likely.

I'd just try no matter what company I was with or switching to, you haven't got anything to lose.

I have just negotiated a better deal with Vodafone where I get my 1gig for 24mths by going for a 2 year plan.
Customer service put me through to a team.

Shows 2500 texts under the Data field for all plans. 2Degrees is still way cheaper for the $39 plan.

Rang my brother whose contract is now finished with Vodafone after 2 years. Told him to go to 2Degrees and sign up for month by month $39 plan with 1GB bonus data.

That's strange, maybe they changed their minds about it. Not enough value. I haven't seen any announcements on their forum today about new plans.
