As at this early morning I can't get TV on my TBox and this is driving me insane.

3rd time rebooted now and nothing is going on, not sure if that's got anything to do with the free broadband weekend but it's a joke.

I hate this, bring on mysky...

Now that Tivo has the Maori EPG I have unplugged my T-box. It really is a very average device and I suspect it sucks up an awful lot of power judging by the heat it gives off. Tivo is heaps better.

Not an issue, but rather, an awesome bug. Before we were locked out of SoHo, we had a few shows on Series Link that we were watching week-to-week. We're now locked out of SoHo, but the episodes are still recording fine. :D

I too prefered the TiVo to the T-Box, unfortunately I moved and no longer have a UHF aerial - sure it's easily fixed but I just can't be bothered. I also miss being able to transfer recordings to the PC.

T-Box issues post software update: reboots needed several times each day.

Live TV image freezing several times per day - Guide or Planner options selected to resolve. Worse case reboot.

10-15% of recordings are failing directly or 60 minutes plus duration recordings show as recorded but only have 5-10 minutes actually captured. Recorded duration shows full record time but jumps dramatically when played back. Reboot.

Playback freezing. Planner shows title as "playing". Selecting alternate title resolves issue.

***Recording is such a lottery now. We have taken to using HDD recorder / Freeview as back up as Fav shows regularly being missed by T-box.

Patience running out I am afraid.

On the positive side - on Tuesday mine hung for the first time since the update. Two recordings failed. One shown as partially recorded but all there. I've not got many reminders set. Biggest frustration continues to be the lack of a manual recording reminder like the old decoder offered (repeat daily, weekly, weekdays). I figure the EPG will never be sorted, and in particular that they'll never have a "new season" flag on shows so you at least know which showings to record, amongst all the repeats.

Here's some competition for thos T-box users who only want a limited number of channels. It'll be interesting to see if they deliver on time, and if the set-top box works...

Not really, this new service does not record. Now I know some would say that T-Box doesn't either but it does seem to record at least some of the time!

Our series link information is provided by external providers (ie: SKY, TVNZ, Canwest) and we rely on these providers to correctly assign series link numbers to identify new programmes and repeats. The same frustrations can be seen using the MySky HDI since we use the same information SKY uses for series linking.

I appreciate that Gary. That's the reason I said what I said. There's no straight forward way to send feedback when something is wrong, and no desire by the providers to mark shows as "new" or "repeat". I saw that statement made with respect to printed guides, so it's a long standing policy.

So, all the more reason why we need the manual recording feature that was slated for this year.

Grrrr. Watching a recording and assuming that the program the T-Box was recording was Coro Street. 8pm went to watch Coro from the start. T-Box showed recording as failed because of scheduling conflict. What it did record was Family Guy. Thanks to useless EPG links it had added sequential recordings into the planner.

So, Family Guy 1 recording started 7:25, along with Coro Street. At 07:55 Family Guy 2 recording cut in, causing Coro Street to FAIL. There's no intelligence to this. Any sensible software would have kept recording Coro and not tried to record the second Family Guy show.

More annoying, I deleted Family Guy (so yes, I won't catch the "new series" show on Monday) and tried to start recording the rest of Coro Street. Of course T-Box wouldn't let me.

This EPG stuff in the industry is really quite fascinating.

Exactly who do these guys think they're kidding by not getting this stuff 100% all the time?

Do they not understand that they're effectively driving consumer to just steal their content?

Perhaps they do, and the joke is on me?

I considered getting a digital TV service again for the winter but just decided that it just wasn't worth it.

The last time I had digital TV is just drove me nuts with two issues - EPG and pixilation.

Perhaps I'm out of line, but I figure if I'm paying $80 a month then I expect a consistent picture and the program guide to work.

I now get more value out of simply having TV cards in my computers and manually setting Windows Media Center to record the content.

There is now stacks of content on FTA TV. I will grant you that it's often played all at the same time so you want to be able to record 5 channels at once for 2 hours and that's it for the week.

However, $80 a month times 12 months is $960 a year, which will build me enough computers with enough tuners and still leave me some gold left over to pay for a new FreeView antenna on the roof and a new TV for the bed room within 3 years.

I had an interesting chat with a contact in Australia earlier in the week who commented that they have exactly the same issues with providers there as well. They get content into their network, but they do it 'side ways'.

I sort of get some of the obvious answers. The providers want us to watch the content live and view their ads, but to they really not get that we are simply not going to do that.

You, myself and people in this thread. That leaves another 900,000 people that don't give a damn and pay Sky Television anyway.

However, our contracts are with TelstraClear, so the responsibility is on YOU to get YOUR supplier to provide the correct information. It doesn't wash to just say, "our supplier is messing it up".
