All well and good if you want a connection that goes at about 50/10 (ive used an average for vdsl) or a connection that has a data cap (wireless) and UFB isnt due to end of 2019/2020 then yep those other suggestions work.

but to some they dont so cable is the only option for fast unlimited internet till UFB arrives

A friend has just renewed his contract with vfone for two years he gets 200/20 unlimited, phone, 5x best mates, plus Nero free for a year on fibreX for $70 per month. Best pricing I've seen will be ringing retentions in the morning to get the same deal.

Perfectly happy having Fibre X at my address.

but so many people are having the issues i described, you dont see huge threads about those sort of issues on fibre.

May I suggest you read some of the the facebook postings on vfone, spark, slingshot, etc etc and then tell me how great fibre is including some of the rough installations in residential residents that have taken place throughout the country.

Also a google search of nationwide newspapers.

instillation has got nothing to do with the quality of service you ultimately end up with. im not doubting the quality of the installs, ive seen some shockers, but thats what happens when you have to do things for as cheaps as possible and "cut" some corners.

the vast vast majority of issues people have with their fibre connections comes down to their own equipment, not the service its self.

fibre is a better product than cable, you cant argue that.

So are you saying that there are no issues with fibre from the Chorus end , I disagree. Even a basic search of facebook forums of all ISP's and google searches tells me there are issues with fibre including in some cases shoddy installations.

I have never said that Fibre X is the superior technology over fibre. Comcast and other cable providers in the US are using DOCSIS 3.1 successfully with no issues and there is a ongoing upgrade with this technology.

The amount of people that complain in these forums is miniscule compared to the number of complaints on the facebook forums of all telecoes and basic google searches.

yes but the general public (non geeks) complain with out know/having an idea of the general cause of things. i would has it a guess that 90+% of complaints are to do with their own equipment, setup or devices. nothing to do with the network its self. a percentage of the rest would be ISP issues.

With respect you are now nitpicking. Tell me how great fibre is when the power goes off. I never have a problem using my circuit switched telephone during a power cut.

Fiber is better in a powercut than HFC, since you can power the ONT and have service. HFC will be out unless the whole lot of amplifiers and converters in the streets all the way back to the data center have power.

Circuit switched phone is wortheless for internet in a powercut so hardly rates a mention.
