We sell far more 16GB than 8GB so there's erm... scarcity value? Would you believe Only The Cool Kids Have Them?

I wouldn't believe that, no...!

I will guess and say that 8Gb versions might vanish completely soon and a 32 Gb might appear!

Surely it is more fun this way?!

I mean, it's unlikely to be half as interesting as (say) the deal that gives Aussies free N95's!

Well it was fun the first time, until we all saw what we were waiting for. I guess this time everyones patience is thin and noone really feels like playing that game again.

Nice dodge on the free N95 statement, I think you'll find most of the people here would like a little bit of the same help that those Aussies are getting.

re: the comments about the 8gig ones being 'exclusive', my guess is you have warehouses 'exclusively' full of them as people have only really been buying the 16 gig version.

Has there been any word on wether iPhones will be sold outside of first mobile stores? eg. DSE or Noel Leeming?

I'm not keen on spending 1129 on one when in a month competition could bring them down to $999.

Most of the retail stores are making as little as $15 on the 16GB after GST either side. There won't be any 'competition' until Vodafone (hence Ingram Micro/Brightpoint) sells the iPhone to the stores for less.

Vodafone NZ pays a slightly higher price than those two countries for the iPhone 3G but generally makes a higher margin when selling handsets to dealers. In this case it doesn't appear that either Aus or UK are selling this phone out of contract (or correct me). There's no tangible way to discern whether the retail stores here buy it at common world prices but based on previous figures the answer is no. As most are aware, these other countries are offering much better subsidies regardless.

Got to agree that a little more information would probably work in Vodafone's own and consumers interest on this one. Waiting is not so much fun when Vodafone's past record on iPhone pricing has been less than stellar. The more time that goes by without a sane price on the iPhone the more willing I am to wait out for other companies' offerings.

The question that I'd like to see answered is, and I've asked here before, will the early adopters be upgraded to these new plans when they come out? The fact that the plans are named after the amount of data they have I'm guessing the answer is no but I hope that I'm wrong.

Just because something is new, you don't HAVE to own it. I have to admit, I agonised for 4-5 months over a new phone before I plonked down my $$$ on a new phone. Of course, I guess you can already know what you want and then it's just finding it at the right price.

You are right, of course.

Personally I still have difficulty adjusting to an environment where you actually have to pay for handsets at all.
