DjShadow:

There any update on the soft launch and where we can get a box from?

No update. Other than what's already been posted here.

I've sent @sansom a PM requesting inclusion for my existing Vodafone TV device, but I haven't heard anything yet.

I'm taking the silence to be a good thing while Vodafone decide how they launch a new device (at a fixed price) and at the same time offer an software upgrade to existing devices. I'm sure that they want to avoid upsetting existing customers and equally don't want an administration nightmare of servicing two types of customer.

Personally, as a new user of the Vodafone TV device, I'm happier than I was with my Sky box and I don't want to be changing my setup too close to the start of the Rugby World Cup.

@rogercruse correct.  We are in commercial discussions with potential distributors and also performing final tweaks to our launch plans.   I have the DMs from a number of GZ members and they will be first to hear as soon as I have details to share.

This service does interest me however I have a nagging concern that this could be Vodafones igloo.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Considering it uses the same backend and hardware as the existing pay service, I doubt your concern.

I am not concerned about the technology but will VF make it viable. Too many of these launches in NZ are here today gone tomorrow eg Tivo, Igloo to name two.

My Tivo is still going strong 😀 albeit community supported now.

For me it needs to add more content to be a must have option. Other than Freeview +youtube+netflix

planet.tv would be a great addition along with a mediaplayer app for accessing content off a users home server such as a HD plugged into the vodafone router..

It has quite a bit more than Freeview + youtube + netflix already... add to that list about 8000 EVOD assets (TV + movies) from Sky, also very soon Neon, Lightbox, Play Stuff and Amazon Prime Video plus more coming in the future.

In terms of planet.tv, this service doesn't appear to have commercial rights for streaming in NZ.  However a mediaplayer for legitimate content is something we are looking into.

Their content isn't actually geoblocked, they did a deal with viacom earlier in the year and have launched their service in anumber of countries

Hopefully not too soon to ask but since Disney+ has just been confirmed for NZ, will their app make it onto the new Vodafone TV box?

Am looking forward to this, will this be available to people who are already Vodafone customers without Vodafone TV?

This is a really good move making it available to all ISP's, an excellent alternative to those who were hanging out for the now cancelled Sky puck. Looking forward to seeing what packages are available.
