What do you get with a multithreaded download? Also, er you can just multiply by 8 to get Mb from MB...

I know I can. But linking to Wolfram is geek. And some people don't understand Mbps and MBps so this is clearer.

Fair enough. No results for multithreaded yet? Something like the DownThemAll extension for Firefox if you use that, or Free Download Manager.

My change to warpspeed was at midnight last night. The usage meter has upsated but I am still only getting 10Mbps so looks like they may have not changed the connection - or they just cant actualy provide 25Mbps. Looks like a call to TC later today.

If you guys are running an older operating system (WinXP or earlier), then you will need to increase your TCP receive window size (RWIN) to overcome being throttled by the 'bandwidth-delay product'.  TCL provide a registry patch to Warpspeed users specifically for this purpose.

If you are running a modern operating system (Vista / Win7), then the dynamic-RWIN needs time to ramp-up, to which many Speedtest servers have a too-short test period to allow the dynamic window to fully open-up.

The alternative is multi-threaded TCP session, but you have to ensure the local PC and remote server supports this and actively use it, which I doubt on public Speedtest servers.

what about bittorrent, would that not be considered multi-threaded?

on adsl.co.nz I managed 17Mbps but using speedtest.net I can only get to 14Mbps.

Watching my utorrent today the highest it went was 11Mbps.

none of these results is anywhere near the 25 advertised and at the premium they are charging I would expect better.

PS: using Windows 7 64Bit

powered off my router, modem and switch and after powering back on managed 17Mbps from speedtest.net AKL server. Its an improvement but its not 25Mbps!

Back to 80GB plan and pay the extra overage I reckon. Might just use chaning to warpspeed once in a while when I need to go over the cap by more the 50%.

I'm not at home so I can't check, but I don't recall ever getting that sort of speed to California before. I've managed to get 7 or 8mbps to Sydney, but anything further is usually less than 4 or 5mbps. I'd be interested to know if anyone on the 10 meg plan can get over 7mbps to California.
