Yup thanks Cameron. Any idea on an indicative timeframe? you may be able to hold a few customers if they can expect to know when the details will be released.

I haven't got all of the details just yet, but I can wholeheartedly say yes they will be cheaper and some will include data in the cost of the plans.

I know I'm sounding a bit like a broken record but as soon as these plans are confirmed I'll try and get the details out there.

Nice to hear. What about “Fusion over fibre”? Hopefully we’ll see more reasonable price for this plan as well.

Although is there a expected timeframe for these announcements??? A few days or a few weeks is a lot different timeframe to a few months and really could be all the difference. Even if the answer is something simple like before Xmas or next month it gives us to sit and wait for with baited breath.

Before Xmas is probably the best date I can give at the moment.

Sweet that sounds good like I said earlier I can see some benefits in changing but I am worried about things like quality of service for which I have no problems with WXC for henceforth I stay put hehe.

Thanks Cameron.

No problem, as soon as I get the new plans set in stone and I've got the go ahead to release them - this will be the first place they'll be!

I let Sales handle that side of things!  I'm sure they'll give you a heads up as soon as the plans are fully confirmed :)

Up until a couple of years ago I had been with Xnet Fusion for some years but the download speed got very slow in the evenings to the extent that the phone service would be pretty poor (Marewa exchange, Napier). Otherwise, I was very happy with the Xnet model.

Recently I was interested in Orcon Genius when it came out so made enquiries:

Orcon Genius speed is not limited by any back haul agreement with Telecom.

Xnet Fusion speed is still limited by the Telecom back haul agreement....

These services are not available in ADSL exchanges that do not have naked DSL option.

Cheers

Gordy

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

We've made great progress around these limitations (as many people would hopefully vouch for), the only issue we now see from time to time is local Telecom exchange congestion.

That isn't correct AFAIK. All new Xnet conenctions are EUBA which doesn't have the same backhaul problems like UBA once had (with every ISP).

Unless you have not migrated to EUBA

These were with respect to enquiries for Nuhaka (northern Hawkes Bay)

From Telecom 8 Aug 2011: This usually means if broadband is available then it will be ADSL which is not EUBA. A manual check would be required to confirm if ADSL is available in that area.
Also: The reports I'm getting for this area are that it is an ADSL zone, and not ADSL2+, so if this is your closest neighbour, then chances are that you'll be on the same kind of connection as they are.

From Xnet 9 Aug 2011: I appologise and correct on this one: I have tested the address, xxx xxxx, Nuhaka, and naked is available.

From Orcon 4 Aug 2011:     Whether you can get the service or not depends on whether the exchange you are connecting to is BUBA(Basic Unbundled Bitstream Access) or EUBA (Enhanced Unbundled Bitstream Access) if it is BUBA you will not be able to use Genius.... and.... Genius is not on a backhaul agreement with Telecom.

With respect to the Marewa exchange (which I am still with): Xnet suggested that congestion was the problem way back with the Telecom exchange. Since I departed Xnet I have seen no congestion and consistantly high speed from this exchange.
I am reluctant to switch back to Xnet if congestion may still be a problem.

Cheers

I see Slingshot now have an 'unlimited*' (24x7) plan. I'd give that less than 12 months tops before it 'goes away' like all the others which are now consigned to the recycle bin of history :D

* Slingshot T&Cs:
6.3
If you are on an ?uncapped? or ?unlimited? plan the total amount of data you can upload or download is unlimited. We may use traffic prioritisation policies for these plans and our capped plans at any time to improve the overall performance amongst our customers.

Translation: Torrent leeches need not apply :D
