Morph:
lchiu7:   This is a particularly relevant thread for me since I am thinking seriously of jumping ship from TCL to Vodafone.

Just wait :)

Wait for what?  A better deal from Vodafone?  Do you think that will be coming soon?

Perhaps he meant a better from TCL?  I can't wait too long since the $2.95/2GB are killing me :-(

Telstra already said that they won't be delivering more value for cable customers until December.

Well that is only 3 weeks away. I could wait a month before jumping ship.

Yes...  the question is, will you miss out on a current deal with someone else?  Will Telstra deliver enough value in December to give you a sense that it was worth the wait or will you spend Christmas feeling like the kid who's parents brought the 'dumb computer' in a pre-xmas sale?

As much as I love rubbish Telstra some days, even I have to confess that they've got some smarts... they're not silly enough not to realise that the Christmas break is apon us and all the providers are going to be planning their Christmas deals to attract customers and keep existing ones.

We're also just heading out of the 'beta VDSL' stage as well I think...  I'm sure they'll be looking to offer existing customers a 12 month deal to keep us locked in when Telecom hits the market with some sharper pricing on the VDSL (which I have every expectation we'll see in Feb at the start of the school year after the holidays).

You haven't factored in the 4 weeks that make up December ("in December" never means the 1st), and the 5x multiplier for TelstraClear Time(tm). So let's say August next year. Wink

Well if nothing happens by Xmas, I will just jump ship then. Of course if then they offer something in Jan which is better than I am down the installation cost which might be $100 or $200 depending on the wiring that needs to be done.  But 120GB for $90 is a good deal that I could live with anyway. It all depends on the speed of the connection I guess which will influence me if I need to go back.

Reon: Just rang up and inquired about getting this.

They asked for my address and said as their equipment is not in my exchange they can not offer this deal to me. Cry

I just rang up and got told the same thing - not available in my area (which is Whangaparaoa). So who can they actually provide this cheap deal to?

I think I will give TCL one more month and possibly speak to their customer retention manager. If they can't talk about better plans then I am taking my business elsewhere. On the VF forum there are folks who have BB over DSL in Khandallah so should be connectable.

I am an existing customer of TelstraClear and I managed to score the same deal!  Even the free router.

Ring up the hotline and ask if you can have it, and ask to speak to someone at Retentions.  But note that I have been a customer for about 4 years or so, and I wasn't in a fixed term contract.  If your circumstances are different you may not get offered the deal.

Interesting info...

I really don't get why deals aren't offered to all customers on an equal footing to stay.

When I was in .au, providers would let you jump on a deal all the time if you were out of your last contract for stuff.

Much more profit for them to give you a deal, lock you in for 12 more months than to loose you to a competitor, then have to market to you to get you back again.

What deal was that again? I have been a TCL customer for nearly 7 years (since I moved into my current home) and my monthly bill is averaging $250.

As a cable customer the free modem is meaningless to me as is their DSL service since they don't offer DSL service to customers in their own cable service areas.
