mercutio: my phone is 7.2 megabit i think. something like that, so i'm not eligible for 3gdc or 4g, but i would prefer slightly faster speeds. currently 2degrees is about 3 or 4 times faster on the same phone.

That tells me that possibly 2degrees has a cell site closer to you with less users.

You are saying both 2degrees and Vodafone cell sites are in the same location, or are you in the same location? Because that makes a lot of difference.

And yes, backhaul issues. If you have 3G on a cell site with backhaul contention then adding 4G will not solve those issues. It may well aggravate them in the short term.

Sitting in Newmarket with 2 LTE devices (my phone plan seems to have it included, unsure about tablet) and no LTE. :( looking forward to finally trying this out though!

The key to LTE is it's a fundamental shift to a fully IP based air interface. At the end of the day HSDPA was a bolt on to the rel 99 WCDMA standard, and one of the biggest failings was the capacity, and hard handovers. Hard handovers are gone with LTE meaning the ability to deliver seemless data sessions while mobile is vastly improved, and capacity is also vastly superior.

both 2d/vodafone same cell site location. if there is backhaul contention, then if they add 4g they'll need to fix that first, yes. but they're unlikely to fix it without justification.
