Thanks Vodafone people, I have sent an email to onlinecare@vodafone.co.nz with some traceroutes and my details as it's getting mighty expensive working off my 3G connection now.

DavidVF: Hi all,

If I could request some information from anyone that's experiencing this problem, to help with characterisation of the issue:

- What is your access method (ADSL, cable modem, UFB etc)?
- Are you on the ex-TelstraClear network?
- Is this problem affecting browsing only, or is it also impacting e.g., gaming? Bonus points: if it's affecting browsing, is it impacting https traffic, or only http?
- What DNS are you using? Only Vodafone DNS servers / Vodafone plus third party (e.g. Google) / thrid-party only?
- Have you raised a ticket about this (if so I may PM you to get the ticket number, so we can may sure all the relevant tickets are grouped up appropriately)?

Thanks very much for your help

David

ADSL
No
When it does happen it affects pretty much everything(Ping will rise majorly, packet loss, websites wont load or DNS refuses to resolve and really really long routing)
So far Google DNS and it has been thus so far more stable for now anyways
No but at some point I was willing to but it cleared up.

You can also follow me on twitter here @kiwifortw I do twitch streams every now and then at twitch.tv/kiwiforthewin :)

InHome Cable.

Ex-TelstraClear network.

Both browsing and gaming. Sites like most Tumblr sites take several refreshes (with minutes of wait apart). YouTube videos take a while to cache before playing. Facebook videos are erratic at loading. news.yahoo.com, groups.yahoo.com and my.yahoo.com (HTTPS) timed out, however us.yahoo.com, nz.yahoo.com, mail.yahoo.com loaded fine. For gaming, ping rate is high and seems excessive hopping.

DNS are 203.97.78.43 and 203.97.78.44

No ticket raised - must I go through the L1 service desk diagnostic steps of restarting the routers and what-not?

Add me to the fold. Up until now my connection wasn't affected but I just tested and can't access Geekzone from home (cable):

Note that these pings and traceroutes are kind of useless if the problem is really (as suspected) with the HTTP proxy.

Access Method: Cable Modem (so ex TelstraClear)
Only seems to be affecting Browsing and updating podcasts in iTunes, though a while ago I did put in a ticket mentioning that my ping to the World of Warcraft servers had gone up from an average of 150+ to 250+. I play both WoW and Final Fantasy XIV and they are both playable.
DNS: Using Vodafone only 203.97.78.43/44
Haven't called in to raise a ticket but I was in contact with HL on the @VodafoneNZ account on Saturday and DM'd them my account number so there should be something on file.

The problem seems to have gotten a lot worse today. I am having to post this on my Slingshot account as I am unable to get to Geekzone on Cable.

Vodafone said on Twitter it was "planned work" although I suspect they might not know the whole story...

Something, something, cache farm back to healthy state soon.

We should start a campaign for them to dump this monstrosity.

Which world you're in? I'm in Balmung until world transfer becomes available then I'm moving to Siren. However the ping rate was so bad (up to 4seconds on receive)... that I may have to consider a VPN connection - which I don't know if it is legal for FFXIV and which VPN service be ideal.

Access method: cable (and ethernet LAN)
Ex-TCL: Yes
Affecting: intermittent issues with some sites. e.g. Geekzone works, then stops for a few minutes, then starts again. Chrome says: "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.geekzone.co.nz". Many other sites will just randomly stop loading for a few minutes.
DNS: 203.97.78.43, 203.97.78.44
Ticket: No. I try to avoid the helpdesk since they shipped the call centre overseas. Not sure if Vodafone's helpdesk is any better.

Ok, just got a couple of phone calls from Vodafone and here is some information.

There was a problem and they did have some planned maintenance to try and fix - it seems load balancing and other related stuff was scheduled. This didn't go well as planned and some connections that weren't affected before (such as mine) then started showing problems.

They then started a second, unplanned work, which involved some reset, configuration loading, new hardware coming in. I tried accessing some sites I had problems with - Amazon, Google, Twitter, Feedly even Geekzone and now it seems they are all working again.

Yeah, some things (like geekzone) that I couldn't get to before are now working, though I notice at the page this reply will appear on, something from cts.tradepub.com is having issues loading.

Things do seem better now but I shall reserve judgement on whether they are fixed for the moment or not...
