my plan is going to finish in about 2 weeks time but i cant seem to find a similar plan to the smart 45, everything is so expensive now.
I think i will be saying good bye to vodafone and jumping ship to telecom's $19 prepay which includes 4G for free.

I am on exactly similar plan as you are mate, been on smart 45 for about 2-3 years and i even got the $10 4G add on to my smart 45 plan as when i called Vodafone to see if i can get the 4G free, i was told it was only for RED plans and not me. I renewed my plans to another 12 months before 3 months and now i pay $10 for 4G.

Sucks that loyal customers have to pay the extra when telecom is giving 4G free to all customers.

Not ALL plans are getting access to 4G on Telecom as I understand, Ultra plans

If I am wrong someone can correct me

All customers are getting it, including prepay. I just orderd through telecom customer support a 4G sim card for my wife and she is on prepaid and they said its free for all customers.

Really feel let down by Vodafone. Think its time to switch to Telecom.

I totally agree. My $90 odd per month contact with 13 months remaining doesn't get me 4G but my wife on Telecom prepaid spending maybe $25 a month gets it. And come December she could also get it on Vodafone, despite providing them a quarter of the revenue I do.

Someone got a handset thrown in somewhere and I am sure it was not the prepay connection

That's a fair point, but even if the handset was totally free (I can't remember) it only works out at a little over $40 of the $90 per month.

According to vodafone social media: those old plans were built way before the days of 4G, so it's not technically possible to provision it.

How is it not technically possible?

Thats not a very good excuse when ALL telecom customers are getting it

I also find it sad how customers on old plans are still paying the same price for the amount of data,texts and minutes they got years ago, Why dont you just upgrade old plans instead of bringing out old ones

That's what i am doing at the moment.. Looking at options with Telecom. Their Ultra 39 plans looks really appealing with the open term contract for just $39 for 1Gb data, 300 mins and unlimited texts..

Well I've been a happy Vodafone customer for about 14 years but because my plan is now grandfathered and not entitled to 4G I will be taking preference with Telecom offerings as soon as I upgrade my handset to one that's 4G capable.

If this is Vodafones plan to re-sign people onto new contracts then it has probably worked but the new contracts will probably be with Telecom when people start voting with their wallets.

Looks like you may be be right http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/30003125/vodafone-customer-base-shrinking although I would think the customer loss would have started pre 4G.

They have different HLRs between 3G / 4G we have a single HLR that covers 2G/3G/4G

Telecom will move to a single HLR in the future

Is this still the case, I was just told by a phone rep that I needed to come get a new card before my 4G would kick in.

4G prepay plan on a iPhone5. No LTE showing.

Thoughts?

A new SIM card is not required for 4G access on Vodafone, Unless of course you need a new SIM to fit into a new handset

If you can't access 4G it's not related to the SIM, Please DM me your mobile number and I can check tomorrow but make sure you are using the APN ' vodafone ' only and make sure you are in 4G coverage

I took the phone to a vodashop last night, they swapped out the SIM as a test, and the tech there did manage to get the LTE showing. It is however very spotty, comes and goes at random.

Im in ChCh, which has fairly good city wide coverage.

Will DM you my number for a further look, thanks for the offer.

The APN in my phone was set by Voda, it's www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz

Just looking now, no LTE showing and i'm smack in the middle of the city. (fitz ave)

You forgot to mention in the post that the iPhone was jail broken, Did you advise the person in the store?

You need to get them to change the online help as it has the APN as www.vodafone.net.nz see http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/mobile-phones/configure-ota/

I was quite obvious to the Vodafone rep that it was JB, he didn't seem to care.

Since then I have now upgraded the phone to 7.0.4 (with no JB) and find the 4G connectivity to be better, but not great. It's active more frequently but still on 3G for 30-40% of the time/places I go.

I figure the network will improve given enough time.

My local 4g isn't up today, makes you appreciate it when it's gone. Hopefully short term.
