Having some serious issues with this modem. Internet keeps dropping out. All the l lights stay on and network and wifi functions work but internet drops out every 5-10 mins and then have to reset to get internet back for another 5-10mins. Got a VF tech coming out tomorrow. Arrrh

Lias: I see at CES Linksys came out with a nice shiny new 8x24 model that can do 960/240Mbps. http://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-CM3024/

I suspect that would make a much nicer replacement for the DPC3008 (which while Cisco branded was really Linksys/Cisco before Cisco flicked Linksys off to Belkin).

@VodafoneDylan @Johnr @zollymonsta We can has nice toys ? ;-P

Cisco CPE is now owned by Technicolor

Interesting. I'd still take the Linksys any day :-)

Technicolor have a terrible reputation for crap quality low end product, and even worse they are cheese eating surrender monkeys French.

I understand our terminals team have been looking into options for docsis 3.1 support (but I don't have any information about their decision, and even if I did know anything wouldn't be able to say until it's public because of business reasons). They'll be looking for the best match of features, realiability, all the things. We like toys too, but it needs to be a good easy experience for mainstream customers as well.

Quick question @Vodafone/Anyone

Went to sort out my parents "NEW" technicolor modem today, RE-Connect wifi devices and apply an admin user, new password, setup RDP to one computer.

Get home got bored and just for the hell i done a port scan of the Parents modem from my Cable connection to find port 53 DNS open, in the past i have been contacted by TelstraClear/Vodafone about my port 53 being open causing issues on the Cable network.
SO my question here is Can anyone else confirm there new technicolour modem has the same port open?
And will my parents be contacted about this like i was previously (All be it a couple of years ago)

(Oh as a side note my parents noted it does get warm, compared to old one.)

I haven't heard of port 53 issues for a while now. I expect there won't be any issues and they won't need to be contacted.

Re: heat. yeah, there'll be some heat generated, and some modems are warmer than others, so of course it's a good idea to have equipment in a space where there's some natural ventilation. If it must be in a cupboard or similar then check in the first few weeks after it's been under load to make sure it's not getting too hot. Also if it's in a less enclosed space it will probably be better for wifi too.

Cheers Dylan.

On behalf of the "enthusiast" community can I please please please request that whatever solution they chose ships with a working bridging option from day one. Also Shiny... SHIIIINY!

I hope your parents are on an unlimited connection. Open port 53 is the tool of choice for amplification attacks and other ISPs had lots of people going over their allowances because of this.

If this is indeed open then I'd really expect Vodafone to own up and get this fixed ASAP.

Could anyone with these modems try the following command (replacing the IP with appropriate IP if needed):

wget -q -O - http://192.168.0.1/goform/system/GatewaySettings.bin | strings

Please let me know the first ten lines and the last two lines.

This was the answer i was after, as my parents are not on an unlimited plan.
i can even find the option in the modem to change or restrict remote admin of the device. (I have found the option to enable the remote admin)

Just tried that on windows 7, strings is an unrecognized command.

should that be a plain text output from wget?
