Fiber is better in a powercut than HFC, since you can power the ONT and have service. HFC will be out unless the whole lot of amplifiers and converters in the streets all the way back to the data center have power.

Circuit switched phone is wortheless for internet in a powercut so hardly rates a mention.

My  phone works perfectly during a powercut.

So? My cellphone is fine in a powercut. Doesn't make it relevant to the OPs questions about the reliability of internet services. HFC is reliant on a large portion of the power network functioning, not just your place.

You cant power that stuff with a generator/UPS like an ONT, and it has no battery backup so its worse than the VDSL via cabinets which have enough runtime for most power outages outside of crazy storm has the lines people very busy. Also the cabinet for VDSL is a fiber connection all the way back to the exchange so not reliant on the power being on in other parts of the suburb to keep working.

I don't get the relevance of linking to that thread.
