For all those who post there must be a large number who dont, I specifcally registered to post to this trail. It certainly seems TC is unable to resolve these problems on there network. Like others I have had the link just hang and drop me out of online gaming especially mid evening. The delay in trying to call them of normally up to an hour on hold refelects the number of issues they must be having.

In the last few days I have a new problem which is that the modem has all its appropiate lights on but is not actually talking to the internet. Each time I reset, it works for about 1 minute and then stopped again. Did this ten times then gave up came back an hour later and it was ok. Today it looks connected but is not actually talking to internet cant ping or get any response even after reset thats been day from 9am until 2pm so far.

When its working the cable connection is great, but in the last few months it seems to spend great chunks of its time just frozen, then for no reason 5 mins/10,min/a hour or more later it kicks back into normal speedy performance.

Hi Atem,

Welcome to the forum.

Can you please confirm that you do not use a router (sounds like you don't)

Also, can you state what region/suburb you are from?

From what I understand, Christchurch should already be seeing improvements. Wellington needs to wait another week or so.

It would seem that the problem is quite widespread...more than I thought.

In the words of target..."Shame on you TelstraClear".

If it wasnt for the people in Geekzone, I would still be upset and wondering what to do...a big thank you.

Whilst my issue has got worse progressively since about November, TC have until the end of this month to fix it..or I switch.
I cannot play online gaming at all in peak hours now.

I am still grossly upset that TC let it get to this, and still havnt really come clean about it all.

I was talking to Alan Freeth last night at a function. I mentioned the incredibly long wait time on his 0800 number and he was appropriately apologetic and said they are looking at it. But even though I am aware of this ARP flooding issue, it did not seem appropriate to raise it with him. I am not sure he would have understood! Certainly later on in the evening he did say he wasn't that technical so a comment on ARP flooding might have been wasted on him!

Here's hoping that by this time next week things will be performing as they should be! :-)

The ARP traffic issue is causing a huge amount of traffic within the TCL network and is the cause of most of the issues, lets just hope the fix works and gives us the performance that we are paying for.

I can’t believe this is the kind of service Telstraclear are providing. I should of changed my isp months before.

The thing that annoys me is not just the constant peak time lag, disconnections, not that they are taking this long to fix it, but is that they won’t even admit or say ANYTHING is wrong on their website, or even say a thing to us, the customers.
I had spent hours & hours troubleshooting the problem on my PC, and if it wasn't for geekzone I would know nothing.

Even if they do fix it next week, (which i some how doubt) I would like to change my isp.

How hard is this going to be? I’ll also have to change my phone line too.

Think i stated above that if it isnt fixed by next friday I will change to ADSL. I think number portability is in place now isnt it?

I can't believe I actually let them fool me for 6 months....and yes I agree...big thanks to geekzone.

Got a connection yesterday but it went up and down like a yoyo. Which is frustrating as I like to relax with a bit on online gaming, and the connection issues (dropping) every 3-5 mins just dont make for a calming experience! I also know I am not the only person in my area experiencing the problems (Wadestown)

I do use a router but, if I go direct this does not resolve the problem.

For all those thinking of the switch to ADSL though, unfortuately I am not sure that thats all that much better depending on where you live, had xtra for a year, a year back in Oriental bay and the speed was at most times slower than dial up. On the positive side of xtra you could get someone on the phone instantly, and they admitted there problems!

Sadly there are not many options both telecome and TC provide terrible customer support and seem to have problems. You would think with telstra and cable that they should be able to address the issues as its there network smaller in distribution than telecoms and a nice thick pipe.

Internet is such an essential these days, ok so I wont die without it but its much more important to me than TV and phone services. I will certainly be supporting its resolution as a election issue, in the same way that roads are.

yip im havin problems too chch telstra clear connection drops mostly 4:30 pm weekdays 9:00-9:30 friday nites my modem lights just die and it restarts itself not good when u play world of warcraft ps3 or xbox got this fixed a month ago but its happening again so the techs coming round on monday i can betcha it dont fix a thing does anyone elses modem restart itself like mine ??

Hi Guys,

You can move with your phone line to a new provider, You will have to sign contracts and stuff with the new provider as well though, and you may have early termination charges with your current network if you have not been there long enough. I think 12 months is standard, but it may be more if you had to have a new connection installed, rather than reinstating an existing connection.
