Geektastic:Personally I still have difficulty adjusting to an environment where you actually have to pay for handsets at all.
You and me both, in 6 years in the UK I had 9 new phones and didnt pay for a single one of them. Or have any extra charges applied when I upgraded soemtimes only 6 months into a contract !
But the reason for that was simple, the conversation would go something this like....
Me: Hi, I see the new xyz phone is out next week and I would like to upgrade my current handset.
Vodafone CSR: sorry Sir your only 6 months into your contract you cant have a new phone.
Me: Well O2 will give me one for free, plus a wall charger, leather case, handsfree, more free minutes, more texts and more data for the same price I pay you.
Vodafone CSR: Im sorry Sir but I dont have the authority to do what your asking.
Me: Ok, whats the address that I send my disconnection letter to ?
24 hours would go by and then....
Vodafone Rentention Supervisor: Hello Mr Sims, what can I offer you to stop you from leaving Vodafone?
At that point I would name the phone, the plan and any extra goodies and I would have it all the next day.
